I am looking for an artist to make drawings and storyboards for a video game. The game visually depicts a scene within the human body's circulatory system, and displays the components of the blood (blood vessel, red blood cells, platelets, etc).
The game is instructional in nature and designed for sufferers of hemophilia.
Please provide samples of drawing skill.
Game Design Information: imagine you are the operator of a 4-engined, ducted fan craft ("HemoQuad"), minituriazed and sent into the bloodstream of a hemophiliac, whose job it is to zoom throughout the circulatory system collecting Factor VII and saving it to apply to a bleed site. Avoid inhibitors that will destroy/remove the collected Factor, and when you get to the bleed site, the Player will 'fling' the collected Factor into the platelet mass that is temporarily plugging the hole. The platelet mass is building and being dissolved simultaneously, but mostly being dissolved - until enough of the Factor is applied to the site. The full job is color storyboards, for the following screens:
Title Screen: Game Name is TBD, but for now use "HemoSquad" - this will need to be editable in the AI file submitted.
Main Intro Scene Screen: Leaving this open to the winner's creativity. It will be used to introduce the concept of the game. Should somehow appeal to the target Player, a hemophilia patient, male between 5 - 12.
Collect Mode Intro Scene - a 3D rotatable view of the HemoQuad, as it is loaded with empty FactorTanks, and as one of those tanks is filled with Factor. The alarm sounds, and you must begin collecting because the bleed site needs it ASAP - no time to refill the second tank. This Screen can be kind of in the mode of a 4 view technical drawing (3D isometric, plus top/side/front) computer screen (e.g. http://snag.gy/EJ1dd.jpg but with your design of the craft)
Collect Mode Screen - 3rd person, zoom through the bloodstream as red blood cells are tumbling by. Collect Factor and avoid inhibitors. HemoCraft (top-view sketch supplied) needs to be in the front/center as this mode is 3rd person.
‘Boss’ Screen - manuever the HemoQuad, avoiding inhibitors and flinging Factor at the bleed site. Submit both 2D overhead (bleed site can be right/top corner) and 3D renderings (bleed site in the forward+top position). Both versions will be 3rd person, but decision has yet to be made as to whether or not this screen will be 2D top-down looking, or 3D forward/up looking.
Level Select Screen (Schematic Human Body With Identified Wound Areas) - human body (male youth, clothed in shortsleeves, short pants, socks/sneakers) rendered in toon style, so perhaps subtly exaggerated size of head/hands/feet. Bleed sites indicated with fun/not-too-serious/non-tactical reticle. Position of body should NOT be laying flat with arms outstretched. Possibly positioned in a back-down, with arms naturally bent at the elbows, knees bent, head looking away. Needs to be mostly anonymous. Perhaps in a pose similar to this http://snag.gy/l1YBF.jpg but with both arms a bit away from the torso. And in different clothes. Positioned for landscape format, ie. horizontal.
Level Completion Screen (3 levels of completion - as indicated by happy face emoji/emoticons of increasing happiness, up to 3) on a comic book, highly graphic background. Room for a sponsor logo above. Examples: http://snag.gy/P5CIX.jpg, or http://snag.gy/9z3fC.jpg , or possibly a cartoon version of http://snag.gy/a4RE5.jpg ,
More info: All screens should be submitted in landscape orientation.
The craft is: a 4-engined, ducted fan (think of the helo-craft from Avatar, but with 4 engines, no sharp edges or wings, 2 top-mounted tanks for Factor solution). HemoQuad craft MUST look technically good/feasible/cool, but with a fun kind of slant to it. Source materials will be supplied for inspiration: http://snag.gy/Xp666.jpg http://snag.gy/1NINy.jpg http://snag.gy/Fn77B.jpg http://snag.gy/6t7Gr.jpg
Screen proportions: landscape, iPad format.
Tone/Style: Fun, bright colors, cross between Subway Surfer and Angry Birds, with some Minion Rush irony/humour thrown in. Cartoon shading with heavy-to-medium dark outlines. Samples provided for guidance. Factor molecules will look close to realistic (triangular, with lots of folded, tanlged string inside). Inhibitors need to be fairly mildly antagonistic looking. Nothing too scary or angry.
Fonts: Use web font(s), bold, tending away from bubble-gum candy, and more towards a technologically advanced feel. But fun, not dark.
Please submit one sample of the Collect Mode Screen - in black-and-white - and I will select from the suppliers who have offered to do the rest of this job. This can be a pencil sketch, but please use some mechanism for shading. The Collect Mode screen will show the HemoQuad in the center, bottom of the screen, manuevering upstream into an endless stream of red blood cells, platelets, Factor molecules, and Inhibitors. Make the blood flow pretty full, not mostly empty.
This mockup can be a scanned or photographed image. If chosen, I will pay for this sample separately in addition to the price of the full job, but will require the final delivery of screens.
the only change is the requirement for Adobe Illustrator files. You don't need to provide these but if you draw in, or copy to Adobe Illustrator, that is a nice-to-have.
Another question was: "which is the illustration style that you are requesting. Do you have a sample?"
I'd say it is somewhere in the middle of: Subway Surfer + Angry Birds + Minion Rush. Heavy-to-medium drawing outlines, simple shading and bright colors. Somewhere between http://snag.gy/qUDYS.jpg and http://snag.gy/7chwO.jpg. Fun, clever, ironic, brightly colored, with a really 'cool' HemoQuad, which is also really kind of rounded and very safe for internal use.
If you are able to do this job and have the skills to complete it, contact me and let me know how long it will take to complete and how much do you think it will cost to get the project done.
