Programmer needed for site speed

We are looking for page speed and diagnosis on certain parts of our site that are running slow. Must be able to work in server root via ssh. This is primary a coding/programming position.

Some of the tasks that we need done server side are:

Compressing resources with gzip or deflate

Properly formatting and compressing images

Setting an expiry date or a maximum age in the HTTP headers for static resources instructs the browser to load previously downloaded resources from local disk rather than over the network

In our test, our server responded in 0.75 seconds. There are many factors that can slow down our server response time, for this position please respond with a few factor you think could improve our response time.
