Job brief
We are looking for new subtitle online Translator to interpret written translation, localization and copywriting in a different language, where the text is culturally and linguistically adapted to suit the reader, making sure to maintain their original meaning, format, and tone.
Translator responsibilities include reading and thoroughly understanding the context of a given material, using specialized dictionaries and translation tools and proofreading finished pieces of work.
Ultimately, you will provide ready-to-use translated content that meets our internal needs and helps us reach a broader audience.
Creates original language-learning content based on guidelines provided by Transparent Language; proofreads language-learning content based on guidelines; designs leveled courses for beginning, intermediate, and advanced adult learners.
Responsibilities
• Read given material and research industry-specific terminology
• Ensuring translated texts and content conveys original meaning and tone
• Converting text and audio recordings in one language to one or more others
• Prepare subtitles for videos and online presentations
• Cross-reference specialized dictionaries and translation tools to check quality of translation
• Proofread translated texts for grammar, spelling and punctuation accuracy
• Follow up with internal team members and clients to ensure translation meets their needs
• Edit content with an eye toward maintaining its original format (e.g. font and structure)
• Network with field experts to stay current on new translation tools and practices
Requirements
• Proven work experience as a Translator, Interpreter or similar role
• Fluency in at least two languages in addition to your native language
• Excellent proofreading skills with the ability to identify grammar, spelling and punctuation errors
• Good knowledge of content editing tools
• Familiarity with translation software
• Time-management skills
• BSc in Translation, Interpreting or similar field
• Additional certification in Linguistics is a plus
• Can translate the following English (Chinese)-Russian; English (Chinese)-Japanese; English (Chinese)-Portuguese; English (Chinese)-French
• Basic PC skills and proficiency with MS Office products
• Willingness and aptitude for learning new software applications
• Creativity and passion for language learning



Skills
You need to show evidence of:
• Fluency in two or more languages
• A good understanding and in-depth knowledge of language/country-specific cultures, known as localization
• Subject matter knowledge specific to the content you'll be translating
• Excellent writing skills and command of grammar
• Attention to detail combined with the ability to work quickly to meet deadlines
• The ability to use initiative in a commercial context
• Proficiency in the use of a range of computer packages - knowledge of translation-oriented applications and software is helpful, though not essential
• Self-motivation, particularly if working as a freelancer
• Eagerness to acquire new knowledge.
