JOB OVERVIEW

The System Designer is responsible for providing engineering deliverables that meet contractual, schedule, and budget requirements for PV projects typically grouped regionally. This individual will work with Project Administrators, Project Managers, Operations Managers and local engineering subcontractors. The primary role of the System Designer is to produce drafted PV system design documents that support the Sales and Operations organizations. This position reports to the Residential and Small Commercial Engineering Manager and works full-time out of a centralized engineering office in Louisville, CO.

Key Responsibilities:
Draft preliminary designs and renderings to support sales proposals and contracts using SketchUp and AutoCAD software
Use site information collected by local Site Survey Technicians to design residential and small commercial solar electric systems including roof mounts, fixed ground mounts, pole mounts and custom installations
Draft construction plans and other design exhibits using SketchUp and AutoCAD software
Select optimal equipment for site and customer-specific requirements and provide material take-offs for BOM entry
Track design progress using workflow management platform
Maintain open communications with multiple departments on project requirements and changes
Coordinate with external structural, geotechnical and/or electrical professional engineers to ensure deliverables meet project requirements
Provide technical support during feasibility, site evaluation, construction and system commissioning phases
Track region-specific design requirements, install practices or preferred equipment in central database
Other tasks as assigned

Essential Qualifications:
Associates degree in related field required
0-4+ years experience in a related field
Experience with CAD software is required, experience with AutoCAD is preferred
Experience with SketchUp required
Experience with Microsoft Office suite is required
Solar PV design and installation experience highly desirable
Knowledge of National Electric Code (NEC), International Building Code (IBC) and American Society of Civil Engineers Standards (ASCE) highly desirable
Experience with Customer Relationship Management software is preferred; Salesforce.com experience highly desirable
Construction experience desirable
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Detail-oriented, with high standard of quality for deliverables
