JOB OVERVIEW

Important: Read this whole post. If you don't follow the instructions I'll assume you can't follow instructions and your application will not be replied to.

I'm looking for enthusiastic and talented people to join my team and help me grow my book publishing business.

We recognise that recruitment is a two way street. It doesn’t matter how much we want you; you’ve got to want to work here. We are a small team, so generally you will be working directly with me, and a few other key staff members. We are a happy and easy-going bunch of people, but we work hard to get the job done and expect the same from you (we don't tolerate people who are slack and unmotivated).

We have a variety of positions available, and many flexible part-time. We are happy to make arrangements for students or people with other part time requirements.
The ideal candidates will -

- Have a good attention to detail - I don't expect you to be a perfectionist but I don't tolerate people repeatedly making the same mistake.

- Be self motivated - I expect everyone to get on with the jobs they know need doing. If I'm going to have to chase you to do your job, don't bother applying.

- Be Reliable - People get sick, stuff happens, I understand. But I won't work with people that just disappear and think I'll be happy to see them when they come back 2 weeks later.

- Be a great communicators - Most of our communication is email based— that means lots of reading and writing. We will also get together on Skype regularly.

- Speak good English - We are producing and publishing books in English . Some of our customers don't have perfect English, so yours needs to be that much better to compensate.

- Be reliable - When you have a sick day or a vacation, you let us know that you won't be around. What you're not going to do is vanish for two weeks without telling us and then expect everything to be fine.

- Be calm and collected - Most of our customers and staff are lovely, but even lovely people can get frustrated when stuff doesn't work. We all need to be treated with respect, no matter what.

- Have a PayPal account - We do 90% of our business via PayPal so in order to get paid it's preferable that you'll have a PayPal account.

Available positions -

- Book Formatting Experts: experience with physical books (CreateSpace etc) and digital (Kindle, NookPress, Kobo etc) a plus. We use a variety of software and programs for formatting, but our end game is to publish lots of books quickly (without sacrificing the quality of the end product) So, if you use a program different to ours, but can still achieve our end game, we are open to adapting.

- Book Cover design Experts: "good enough" is not "good enough" - your covers need to be stunning and should rival the quality you might see on a traditionally published book -you can only make a first impression once. You have the task of being creative, but should understand the value of keeping it simple.

- Image enhancement experts: Deskewing, redrawing, Despeckling and Tracing scanned images to prepare them for print.

- Writing Experts: We need writers who can write a book descriptions, book reviews, book forewards and blog posts, emails etc. We need great creative writers, who understand the importance of having 'a voice' and can adapt their 'voice' when ghost-writing under a pen name.

To apply, send an email to jvwithphilip@gmail.com with

1. An outline of your current skills and a brief description of which role you'd be suitable for.
2. Who you've worked for
3. Portfolio of work (if you have one)
4. Why you'd like to work with us
5. Where you see yourself in 5 years.

The subject line of your email should say "My favourite colour is green" ... that way I'll know you didn't get bored half way through reading this but apply anyway

Do NOT PM me. If you PM me your application will not be considered.

Cheers,

Phil
