JOB OVERVIEW

We need editors who have the skill required to edit the work of writers from traditionally English-speaking countries, such as the U.S., U.K., Canada, and Australia. As such, to be considered for the position, you need to display a certain level of competence in the English language.

As an editor, you’ll have two main responsibilities:
• Editing: This is your main responsibility. We currently have a backlog of content that needs editing, and you will be tasked with working through that backlog. The quality of the pieces we get from writers varies quite a bit, so the type and amount of editing you need to do on each piece varies. It can range from cleaning grammar and style to tweaking content for readability to full-blown rewriting of the article. When needed, you may need to send writers feedback to help them improve future submissions.
• Writing: As good as many of our writers are, there will be times when articles need to be scrapped and rewritten from scratch. We can sometimes send these back out into the wild for rewriting, but occasionally, you may be asked to do the rewriting yourself. Other times, our writers might not pick up urgent work. When that happens, you may be asked to drop your editing duties and fill the role of an emergency writer, so we can get the pieces out to the client in time.

Given that writing is involved, the assessment period (roughly 2-3 weeks) will comprise primarily of writing many of the same tasks assigned to our roster of writers. During that period, you will be paid the same standard per-piece rates that our pool of writers receives. If we determine that you aren't yet ready to fill an editorial role, you'll be assigned an in-house writer, so you can develop your skills.

So that we know you have fully read and understood our job post, make sure you only say “Hi!” as your opening. Please don’t use the “Dear Sir/Madam” many Filipinos like to use or preface the body of your letter with “Good day!” or “Greetings!” Write a conversational, natural-sounding letter that clearly details your writing or editing experience concisely, since we’ll use your cover letter as an initial assessment of writing skill.
