Web Designer & Programmer

This role will involve creating websites for small business clients in Ireland, primarily on the Wordpress platform.

The successful applicant will have strong skills in web design (psd), graphic manipulation, Wordpress theme creation (psd slicing) and/or customisation and sufficient intermediate skills in HTML, CSS and PHP to fulfil this role.

Candidates must also have very good written English and English comprehension as you will eventually need to work directly with clients, by email, once you have settled into your role.

Our position is that we have been trying to hire someone for the last month, we are offering a decent salary and conditions and yet we are having difficulty. We have had some applications which looked great on paper but did not hold up to scrutiny and we have engaged some individuals who have proven to be patently dishonest. We are now very cautious about all of the applications we receive. We are seeking someone with whom we will have a long-term working relationship that brings significant benefits to both parties. We are not looking for contract workers, short-term workers, part-time workers, double-jobbers or anything other than a full-time, permanent employee who wants a regular salary with the opportunity for advancement.

Therefore, I would like to ask you some (a lot of!) questions regarding this position before we go any further. Please read them CAREFULLY and answer them all as fully as possible.

• We are offering a full time, permanent position. Can you commit to 40 hours per week, every week? Please note that it will quickly become obvious to us if you are not working all your hours and we will not accept that at all. In return for your commitment we will commit to keeping you in full-time work all year round, to pay you on time and to treat you as an essential and valued member of our business team.

• Why would you prefer to work for us rather than freelance?

• Are you a person of your word? Are you hard working? Enthusiastic? Able to work unsupervised? Creative? Willing to use your initiative? A good communicator?

• Will you be working at any other job or will you be freelancing during your employment? Please note that it will quickly become obvious to us if you are doing so and we will not accept that at all.

• We are in Ireland – in the GMT time zone. How would you propose to manage the time difference? We would not insist on you being available for all 8 of our working hours but we would need you to be available for at least 4 hours between 10 am to 6 pm Monday to Friday GMT. We will not accept an employee who is un-contactable.

• Can you supply us with a phone number at which you will be reachable during work hours, where necessary?

• Can you send an SMS to us when you are delayed, during internet or power cuts, emergencies etc.? We will cover any cost after the fact.

• Will you undertake to fully and completely document ALL of your time spent working for us and report to us every single day on what you have been doing, what you have achieved and what problems you have encountered?

• How many fully completed 10-page, brochure style websites could you produce per week, assuming you had all the material you needed?

• Can you both design and program these sites from scratch given a proper client briefing?

• Is your portfolio entirely and completely your own? Please forward your portfolio or a link to it again, in your reply.

• What are your salary expectations?

• When can you start?

• We will pay weekly for the first 12 weeks – is this acceptable? How do you wish to be paid?

• Will you provide us with photographic identification prior to starting? (ID Card or Passport or Driving Licence or Other Official ID)

• Are you willing to video conference with us on Skype prior to starting?

• Are you willing to sign a legally binding (under the laws of the Republic of the Philippines) contract and non-disclosure agreement?
