## The role in one line
You lead SEO for a small portfolio of clients and own what we deliver to them: strategy, on-page, content and links. You set the direction for each campaign and ensure the work that goes out is genuinely good.
## We are a small agency, and that is the point
We are small on purpose and growing steadily, so read the responsibilities below in that light. You would lead fewer than 10 active campaigns, and they would be small in scope, not sprawling enterprise accounts. We cap how much any one person carries: before the work piles up, we bring in more people to support the other parts of a campaign. You are also free to bring in copywriters and link-building contractors, and to manage them.
So, while the list below may look broad, you are not doing all of it alone or at scale. You lead the campaigns, set the standard, and pull in support where it helps. We also have someone who handles technical SEO, so that is not on your plate day-to-day.
## Who you would be working for
We are part of Lakewood media, a UK agency going since 2013.
We care about more than rankings. The wider mission is to do excellent digital work for purpose-driven businesses while giving something back, including a commitment to plant 1,000 trees by 2027 and a focus on the communities we work in across the UK, the Philippines and South Africa. We are aiming to become one of the top premium UK digital agencies, and we want the people who help get us there to grow with us.
## How we work, and why you would want to
We are a small, distributed team, and we are genuinely flexible.
- Work the hours that suit you. Your working day is largely yours to shape.
- Your location does not matter to us. Work from wherever you are.
- The only fixed ask is that you are available for the handful of meetings we schedule.
- We judge the work by its outputs, not by hours logged.
- You would be part of a small team where your opinion, expertise and time are genuinely valued.
## What makes this role different
Most of our current work sits inside one niche: high-end adult brands, specifically escort agencies. This is under our agency HauteLab. You will start there, across our full client roster, and learn that world by working in it.
Within roughly the next 6-12 months, you will also take on clients for our sister brand, Peak Narrative, which operates in very different sectors: education, the environment, and outdoor lifestyle. The delivery model is the same. The niches are not.
That is why we care far more about strong, current SEO fundamentals than about niche experience. Good SEO works in any niche. We can quickly hand you the context for a sector, we cannot teach sound judgment as quickly. If you understand why something ranks, you will be effective whether the page is about an escort agency or a private school.
## What you will own
- Lead every SEO campaign in your portfolio: set the strategy, priorities and roadmap, and keep each one moving
- Own the deliverables. You build the monthly deliverable reports and bring them to Adam, who stays the client's primary point of contact and runs the live monthly reviews
- Plan content strategy for each client, oversee content creation (your own and your writers'), and edit to a high standard
- Run link building at the small scale these clients need, bringing in and managing link contractors to help
- Hire and manage copywriters and freelancers where it helps: brief them, review their work, keep them on time and on standard
- Keep the client workbooks accurate and delivery on cadence
## The SEO expertise we need
We want an all-out SEO expert, someone whose judgment we can trust on any campaign. Specifically, deep command of:
- On-page SEO, inside out: titles, headings, internal linking, structured data and content quality, all matched to user intent rather than a word count.
- Content strategy: planning topic clusters and the pieces that actually move rankings, not filler or generic AI nonsense. **We are looking for someone with ‘outside the box’ thinking that can work with clients to build unique content angles.**
- Trust and E-E-A-T as a site-wide signal: about pages, author and trust signals, and non-commodity content that earns its place.
- Current SEO strategy: people-first content as the baseline (the Helpful Content System is now part of core ranking), and a clear-eyed view of AI search. AI Overviews and AI Mode run on the same systems as classic search, so doing real SEO covers both. We do not chase "AEO" or "GEO" gimmicks.
- The value of links and how to build them at small scale: quality over quantity, a real grasp of anchor distribution, velocity and source diversity, and the judgment to win a few strong links rather than many weak ones.
- Understanding how to us AI tools to during this process is critical. For example using Claude Code to build tailored targets for outreach and push them into a cold outreach campaign on Smartlead.
## Tools and data
- SEO and analytics: strong working mastery of Ahrefs, Google Search Console and Google Analytics 4.
- Site audits: you do not have to be our deep technical person, we have someone who handles technical SEO. But when an Ahrefs or Screaming Frog audit flags issues, you need to read it, know which on-page problems matter, and either fix them yourself or direct how they should be fixed.
- AI as a force multiplier: a real part of how we work, covered in its own section below. Deep knowledge of Claude using Cowork, Code and skills.
- Our stack: Asana (project management), Notion (knowledge base), Missive
## Working with AI (a big part of how we operate)
We lean on AI to keep quality high and delivery efficient, so using it well genuinely matters here. We do test for it, because it is part of the job, not a bolt-on.
We are not looking for someone who pastes a prompt into Claude and copies the answer back out. We want someone who builds AI into the work to lift the quality and the speed of the end result. In practice that means:
- Using Claude on real, multi-step tasks, not one-off questions
- Building repeatable workflows with connectors and skills. For example: pull a Screaming Frog crawl or a GSC via Composio connector, break it down, cross-reference it against Ahrefs, then turn it into a clear, prioritised report a client can read in plain English
- Being able to maintain and use more advanced setups, not just chat. Cowork and Code for long complex tasks. Building skills and updating existing to make processes and workflows more efficient.
- Knowing the line between augmenting your judgment and outsourcing it. AI improves the output; it does not produce the deliverable unsupervised
Done well, this is how one person handles more clients without the quality dropping. It is central to how we operate.
## Attention to detail and organisation (non-negotiable)
You will hold many moving parts across several clients at once: content stages, link logs, reporting deadlines, vendor spend and workbook hygiene. Small errors compound fast across a portfolio. We need someone genuinely meticulous and well organised, who keeps trackers accurate, follows a process and does not let things slip. This is a hard requirement, and the assessment is built to surface whether you have it.
## What a typical week looks like
This is built from the real work the role carries today, not a generic list.
**Content**
- Plan the month's content for each client and brief the freelance writers (when needed)
- Write and edit blog posts, landing pages, city and category pages, and client profile pages
- Review writers' drafts against the brief and our human-first standard before anything goes live
**Links**
- Own each client's link plan, build links at the small scale they need, and use contractors to help with outreach and placements
- Vet and rate links from vendors, find and buy relevant expired domains, and log every live link in the workbook
**Technical and analysis**
- Review Ahrefs and Screaming Frog site audits and turn the findings into a prioritised on-page action list (our technical specialist handles the heavy technical fixes)
- Check Search Console for discovered-but-not-indexed content and track stage keywords in Ahrefs
- Run competitor and link-gap analysis, on-page audits and trust or about-page builds
**Reporting and admin**
- Produce end-of-month deliverables summaries per client and set up the next month's content stages
- Keep workbooks clean (stage IDs, content planner, live links), document decisions in the client wiki, and stay on top of client
## Being upfront about the niche
We specialise in high-end adult brands, specifically escort agencies. We are completely transparent about this from the start, because we know it is not for everyone.
The work itself is standard SEO and content delivery. If you are not comfortable working in this sector, this is not the right role, and that is fine. We would rather you know now than later.
## Who this is for
- A genuine SEO expert who can lead campaigns and own delivery without hand-holding
- Deep on content, on-page, E-E-A-T and links (technical depth is a bonus, not a must, we have that covered)
- Genuinely fluent with AI as a working tool, not a novelty
- Meticulous, organised and reliable on deadlines
- Comfortable in the adult niche, able to flex into other sectors, and keen to grow with us long term
## Who it is not for
- Specialists who only do one slice of SEO and cannot lead a whole campaign
- Anyone who needs a fixed playbook and struggles when the niche changes
- "AI users" whose skill stops at pasting prompts
- Anyone who needs AI to understand the work they are doing.
## Where this role can go
This is not a seat to fill and forget. We are growing, and we want the person we bring in now to grow with us and become a key part of the agency. As we add clients, you would lead a bigger share of delivery and bring people in under you rather than just carry more yourself.
The rate is a starting point, and we expect it to rise as you take on more and as we grow. If you want somewhere to do excellent work and build something over the next few years, this is it.
