JOB OVERVIEW

About Us ( ---------- )
Mixson Media is a Brooklyn-based creative agency specializing in event coverage, brand videography, weddings, corporate content, vlogs, and cinematic storytelling. We work with schools, nonprofits, corporate clients, and personal brands across New York City. Our work is cinematic, community-driven, and built around authentic storytelling — not cookie-cutter templates.

The founder and owner of Mixson Media is himself a professional videographer and editor with years of experience shooting and cutting real projects at a high level. This is not a business owner who saw a YouTube tutorial and thinks they understand editing. This is a working creative who knows exactly what great footage looks like, what great shot selection feels like, and what a finished product needs to be. That means the bar is high — and it also means you'll be learning from someone who can actually teach you and push your craft forward.

We're growing fast and we need an editor who wants to grow with us.

The Opportunity
This is not a one-off gig. This is the beginning of a long-term role.

We're building out our editing pipeline and looking for a primary editor to start on a per-project basis with a clear path to a full salaried position within six months. The projects you'll be working on have real budgets, real clients, and real deadlines — including weddings, corporate events, travel content, and brand campaigns that most editors at this level never get access to.

If you're coachable, love the craft, and want to grow inside a real creative operation — this is the opportunity you've been looking for.

What You'll Be Editing
Weddings and large-scale events (galas, graduations, corporate events)
Event highlight reels for schools and nonprofits
Vlogs, behind-the-scenes, and travel content
Cinematic short films and storytelling pieces
Sporting events

Pay Structure
Pay is per project. Rates scale with project complexity — the base rates below are the floor, not the ceiling. Weddings, travel projects, and large-scale productions pay significantly more.

Base Editing Rates (starting at):

$75 per finished minute of edited content
$15 per hour of footage sifted and organized

What that looks like in practice:

A 3-minute event highlight reel = $225+ editing pay
A 5-minute wedding highlight film = $375+ (more for complex multi-camera, long-form projects)
Travel and destination content = negotiated per project, always above base rate
Consistent work from day one — this is not a "wait for jobs to come in" situation

Growth path:

Months 1-3: Per-project basis as you learn the style and workflow
Months 4-6: Increased volume and project complexity
Month 6+: Full salaried position at $2,000-$3,000/month based on performance

What We're Looking For
Required:

Proficiency in DaVinci Resolve (non-negotiable — we do not use Premiere Pro)
Strong shot selection — you understand why one clip works and another doesn't
Basic to intermediate color grading — clean, consistent, cinematic
Sound design at a working level (7/10 minimum) — dialogue clarity, music balance, ambient fill
Basic motion graphics — lower thirds, text overlays, simple transitions
Ability to take direction and match an established style
Reliable turnaround — deadlines are not suggestions

Preferred:

Experience editing weddings, events, or travel content
Familiarity with cinematic editing styles beyond quick social cuts
Experience working with LOG footage and color science

Most Important: You love editing. Not as a job — as a craft. You watch great content and study why it works. You have opinions about shot selection. You want to get better and you're willing to be coached to get there.

What This Is NOT
This is not a passive gig where you edit however you want
This is not for editors who want to impose their own style over the project
This is not for editors who can't take feedback or direction
This is not for editors who disappear after taking a project

How to Apply
We receive a lot of applications. To make sure we're connecting with people who are serious, here's what we need from you:

Step 1 — Record a short Loom video (2-3 minutes max)

Go to loom.com, record yourself on camera, and answer these three questions:

Who are you, what kind of content do you love editing, and why do you want this role specifically?
Walk us through one edit you're proud of — show us the finished product and tell us what decisions you made and why.
What's your current skill level in DaVinci Resolve and what are you actively working to get better at?

Don't overthink it. Don't script it. Just talk to us like a real person.

Step 2 — Send the following to ----------

Your Loom video link
A link to your reel or 2-3 work samples
Your typical turnaround time for a 3-minute edit
Subject line: EDITOR APPLICATION — [Your Name]

Send everything to: ----------

Applications without a Loom video will not be considered. This is the filter. If you can't take 3 minutes to show us who you are, we're not the right fit for each other.

Shortlisted candidates will receive a paid test edit — raw footage and a style reference provided. We pay for your time even on the test.

I understand this might be a lot, that's the point we're trying to help someone become ELITE
