We’re looking for a highly skilled Performance Video Editor to help us iterate on winning Meta video ads.
This is not a role focused on creating brand films or editing generic social content. Your main job is to take proven winning ad concepts and turn them into high-quality variations that improve engagement, retention, clarity, and freshness, without damaging what made the ad work in the first place.
You will work with existing winning creatives that we hand to you. We will usually provide the strategic direction, testing hypothesis, new hooks when relevant, and structured feedback. We are looking for someone who can execute at a high level, collaborate well, and bring strong performance-editing instincts to the table.
What you’ll do
- Create variations of existing winning Meta video ads
- Improve pacing, tighten edits, and shorten videos where needed
- Add VFX, sound effects, motion emphasis, and visual polish to key moments
- Add and refine subtitles, captions, text overlays, and on-screen hierarchy
- Integrate B-roll and additional voice-over when provided
- Clean up audio and improve overall sound quality
- Clean up cuts and make edits feel sharper and more intentional
- Deliver polished, finished 9:16 exports optimized for Meta paid social
- Revise quickly and accurately based on structured feedback
- Occasionally suggest smart edit improvements beyond the brief, with reasoning
What this role is focused on
This role is about iterating on winners, not reinventing them.
We want someone who understands how to:
- preserve the winning core of an ad
- create controlled variations tied to a specific testing hypothesis
- improve engagement in different ways through editing
- make key moments land harder without overediting
- balance direct-response performance with high production quality
What we’ll provide
- The winning concept to iterate on
- A clear brief and testing hypothesis for each variation
- New hooks when needed
- Ideas for moments to emphasize
- Additional VO, B-roll direction, or text direction when relevant
- Structured feedback for revisions
- Our Brand Book with brand direction
What we need from you
- Strong experience editing performance creative / direct-response ads
- Strong understanding of Meta paid social
- Excellent pacing and retention instincts
- Advanced editing skills beyond basic raw UGC cutting
- Strong subtitle and text-overlay design sense
- Strong VFX / SFX / motion enhancement instincts
- Clean audio editing and finishing ability
- Ability to follow a brief while also contributing thoughtful ideas
- Strong organization, file hygiene, and version control
- Ability to deliver finished work at a consistently high standard
Important constraints
- The first 3 seconds are generally off-limits in terms of changing the underlying footage
- Effects, polish, and editing improvements can be added, but the core opening footage usually stays
- These are hypothesis-driven variations, not random creative remixes
- Revisions are part of the process and should not be an issue
- Deliverables must be high quality, with Meta-optimized resolutions and exports
Ideal profile
You’re likely a strong fit if you:
- have edited for DTC brands or performance agencies
- understand retention, payoff, proof, pacing, and direct-response structure
- know how to make ads feel fresher without changing the core concept too much
- can collaborate with founders / marketers and improve execution quality
- understand that every edit should serve performance, not just aesthetics
Nice to have
- Experience with supplement, wellness, health, or consumer product brands
- Ability to work in Premiere Pro and After Effects
- Ability to source or create tasteful supporting motion / visual enhancement where needed
- Familiarity with version testing workflows
Working setup
- Freelance to start
- Potential for regular ongoing work / retainer if the fit is strong
- Work will be assigned on a concept-by-concept basis around winning ads we want to scale or refresh
To apply
Please send:
- a short introduction
- relevant examples of performance / direct-response ad edits
- examples where you created variations of an existing winning concept
- the software you use
- your typical turnaround times
- your rate structure
- whether you are open to a paid trial task
When applying, include the phrase: “controlled variation beats random editing” so we know you read the full brief.
