JOB OVERVIEW

Job Title: Clinical Quality Assurance Nurse – UK Care Home Group (Remote)
Job Type: Full-Time | Work From Home | UK Hours

About Us
We are a UK-based group of nine care homes providing residential and nursing care across England. We are regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and operate to high standards of clinical governance. As part of our quality assurance framework we are building a dedicated remote QA function to provide independent oversight of care quality and compliance across all our homes.

This Is Not a Standard Remote Nursing Role
We are not looking for someone to answer calls, manage schedules, or provide telehealth support. This role requires a nurse who can open a care record and tell whether the care being delivered is genuinely good — not just whether the paperwork is present.
You will be reviewing real care records for real residents and your findings will directly influence the quality of care they receive. This is serious clinical governance work and we need someone who takes that responsibility seriously.

What You Will Do
Each day you will be assigned one of our nine care homes to audit remotely. You will have direct access to our care management system (Person Centred Software) and our audit platform (Go Audits) and will work through a structured audit tool covering:

Reviewing every audit the home manager has completed — not just whether they exist but whether they are meaningful, accurate, and followed up
Checking every active Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) authorisation for that home — expiry dates, conditions, and whether applications are in place where needed
Reviewing every i ---------- and a ---------- logged since your last visit — completeness, post-fall observations, patterns, escalation, and CQC notifications

Deep clinical review of 3 residents per visit:

Full care plan assessment — is it person-centred, current, and does it reflect this individual's actual needs or is it generic and copy-pasted?
All risk assessments — falls, pressure care, nutrition, mental capacity, moving and handling, continence, oral health, skin integrity, communication needs
MAR chart audit — gaps, PRN protocols, controlled drug records, time-sensitive medications, topical charts
Nutrition and weight monitoring — MUST scores, weight trends, dietician referrals, supplement prescriptions, texture-modified diets
Pressure care — Waterlow scores, repositioning charts, wound care plans, body maps, escalation
End of life care planning where applicable
GP and allied health professional involvement and follow-through
Continence and catheter care
Behaviours that challenge — PBS plans, restrictive practice recording

Home-level checks each visit:

Staffing and mandatory training compliance
Infection prevention and control
Health and safety — fire drills, Legionella, COSHH
Complaints and compliments
Resident and family voice
Handover record quality

At the end of each day you will produce a written findings report with a RAG rating for the home, flagging any concerns to the UK clinical lead for follow-up.

What We Are Looking For
Essential:

Registered Nurse with a minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience
Experience in audit, quality assurance, compliance review, or clinical governance — in any country or healthcare setting
Ability to read a care record and assess whether the care is genuinely good — not just whether the documentation is present
Excellent written English — your reports will be read by UK registered managers and senior management
Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently and manage your own time
Reliable internet connection and a quiet, professional working environment
Willingness to learn UK care home regulatory standards

Highly Desirable:

Experience working in a long-term care, hospice, palliative care, or geriatric setting
Experience with EMR or care management systems — any platform
Previous QA, audit, or inspection preparation experience
Experience reviewing medication records or MAR charts
Any exposure to UK healthcare — NHS, UK care home work, or supporting UK-based clinical teams remotely
