# Middle-Level AI Developer / Agentic Engineer

**Company:** Brainova AI, a Canadian-based company
**Location:** Remote
**Schedule:** Flexible
**Type:** Full-time or long-term contractor
**Compensation:** [confirm compensation range]
**Equity:** Potential stock option opportunities for exceptional long-term contributors
**Website:** brainova.ai

## About Brainova AI

Brainova AI builds AI-powered business automation products for companies that want faster operations, better customer experience, and less manual work.

Our products include **Brainova Talk**, an AI voice agent platform for business phone workflows such as reception, routing, scheduling, order intake, customer support, and outbound calls, and **Brainova AI Inventory**, an AI-assisted catalog automation product for Shopify and e-commerce teams.

We are hiring a middle-level AI agentic engineer who can help build practical AI agents, LLM-powered workflows, tool/function calling systems, RAG features, voice AI workflows, Shopify automation, and internal AI automation tools.

## About the Role

You will work with the founder, product team, and senior engineering support to turn business workflows into reliable AI-powered features. This role is a good fit for someone who is already hands-on with AI development and wants to grow into deeper product ownership, architecture judgment, and production AI engineering.

You do not need to be a senior architect, but you should be comfortable building real software, integrating APIs, debugging AI behavior, and improving workflows based on feedback. Experience with **Python, TypeScript, OpenAI, Anthropic, LangChain, LangGraph, Supabase, Twilio, ElevenLabs, and Shopify** is especially relevant.

## What You'll Build

- AI agents and LLM-powered workflows for customer service, operations, e-commerce, and internal automation
- Tool/function calling flows that connect AI systems to business logic, APIs, and databases
- RAG and structured-output workflows for retrieving, validating, and formatting business information
- Voice AI workflow logic for routing, scheduling, order intake, and support use cases
- Shopify and e-commerce automation features for product enrichment, tags, variants, collections, and SEO fields
- Admin/configuration tools for prompts, workflow rules, test cases, and AI behavior settings
- Configuration work inside existing applications, including updating prompts, workflow settings, routing rules, tool behavior, integrations, and admin options
- End-user communication and feedback collection to understand workflow issues, clarify expected behavior, and confirm whether AI automation changes are useful
- Logging, evaluation examples, test cases, and debugging tools for AI workflows

## First 90 Days

From month one, you should expect to contribute production-ready new features, new product functionality, and improvements, and release frequently, often daily, on scoped work with review and guidance:

- Learn the Brainova Talk and Brainova AI Inventory product surfaces
- Implement and release small, safe new features, new product functionality, and AI workflow improvements from the first month
- Contribute daily or near-daily production releases when the work is scoped, reviewed, and ready
- Configure existing applications and AI workflows before proposing custom code, especially when settings, prompts, rules, or integrations can solve the problem
- Add validations, logs, test cases, or evaluation examples to make AI behavior easier to debug
- Communicate with end-users or internal stakeholders to understand issues, gather examples, and confirm acceptance criteria
- Help convert customer or founder feedback into smaller implementation tasks
- Build confidence working across prompts, tools, APIs, data models, and simple UI surfaces

## What Success Looks Like

You are successful in this role if you can:

- Build useful AI workflow improvements from clear product direction
- Use AI development tools such as Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, and Cursor while reviewing and understanding the code you ship
- Debug AI behavior by checking prompts, inputs, tool calls, data, logs, and edge cases
- Configure existing systems carefully, document what changed, and escalate when custom engineering is needed
- Write clear validation logic instead of relying only on prompts
- Communicate clearly with end-users about expected behavior, limitations, and follow-up questions
- Communicate blockers, assumptions, and tradeoffs early
- Learn quickly and improve your engineering judgment over time

## Required Experience

You should have:

- Experience building software applications, automation workflows, AI tools, or integration-heavy projects
- Hands-on experience with LLM APIs, AI agents, prompt engineering, tool/function calling, RAG, or AI workflow automation
- Ability to work with APIs, JSON, databases, backend logic, and basic frontend/admin UI tasks
- Practical debugging skills and comfort reading unfamiliar code
- Good judgment about when AI output needs deterministic validation or human review
- Clear written communication and the ability to work independently on scoped tasks

## Nice to Have

Experience with any of the following is helpful, but not required:

- Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Next.js, or similar application frameworks
- OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex, AutoGen, CrewAI, or similar AI tools
- Supabase, PostgreSQL, Vercel, serverless functions, or webhook-based systems
- RAG, structured outputs, tool/function calling, prompt evaluation, guardrails, or agent observability
- Twilio, ElevenLabs, Retell AI, RingCentral-style phone workflows, or voice AI platforms
- Shopify Admin API, GraphQL, products, variants, metafields, collections, and publishing workflows
- Sentry, LangSmith, Langfuse, CI/CD, automated tests, or production monitoring

## Why Join Brainova AI

- Build real AI products used by businesses, not demos
- Work on practical agentic systems across voice, e-commerce, and business automation
- Learn directly from production AI workflows and customer use cases
- Use modern AI tools as part of the development workflow
- Grow toward stronger product engineering and architecture ownership
- Help shape reusable AI automation patterns for a growing Canadian-based startup

## Hiring Process

1. **Application review:** We review your resume or LinkedIn profile, relevant work examples, and compensation/location fit.
2. **Short initial interview:** Selected candidates are invited to a brief conversation about experience, communication style, and role fit.
3. **Test assignment:** Shortlisted candidates receive a practical assignment. You may use AI tools as you would on the job. The assignment is used to evaluate AI workflow thinking, debugging approach, communication, and code quality; it will not ask you to complete unpaid production work for Brainova.
4. **Technical/product walkthrough:** We discuss your assignment, design choices, testing approach, and how you would improve the solution with more time.
5. **Final conversation:** We confirm scope, working style, compensation, availability, and next steps.

## How to Apply

Please send:

- Your resume or LinkedIn profile
- 1-2 examples of AI agents, automations, apps, scripts, workflows, or integration projects you have built
- GitHub, portfolio, demos, Loom walkthroughs, or technical writing if available
- Your expected compensation
