Supabase + Stripe Backend Developer

Backend Developer Needed for Breakground Canada SaaS Launch — Stripe, Supabase RLS, Data Pipelines

We have built the frontend of Breakground Canada, a Canadian government infrastructure project intelligence platform, using Bolt.new and Supabase. The frontend and database structure are already in progress. We now need a backend developer to wire in the core systems that make the platform commercially viable and ready for launch.

Phase 1 Scope

The initial phase includes:

Stripe subscription billing

Set up Stripe billing for five subscription tiers:

Required Stripe work includes:

Subscription checkout
One-time payment checkout
Customer portal
Webhook handler
Automatic updating of the user’s subscription_tier in Supabase
Clean handling of failed payments, cancellations, upgrades, and downgrades

Supabase Auth and RLS policies

Set up server-side Supabase Row Level Security policies so that project content access is enforced by subscription tier, not just hidden on the frontend.

This is critical. Paid content must be protected at the database level.

Automated data pipelines

Create two automated data pipelines using GitHub Actions:

Monthly CSV import from Infrastructure Canada open data
Daily RSS monitor from ----------

The scripts can be written in Node.js or Python. The goal is to keep the project database updated automatically.

WhatsApp alert integration

Connect ---------- REST API for WhatsApp alerts. This should use the same trigger logic as the existing Resend email alerts.

Resend API connection and testing

Connect and test the Resend API for the existing Supabase edge functions and email alerts.

Database updates

Add approximately 10 additional fields to the existing projects table and enable the PostGIS extension in Supabase.

Development journal

Keep a simple but clear journal of all time, development work, decisions, and implementation notes. This is important because we intend to apply for government funding for future phases.

You must have:

Live Stripe subscription integration experience that you can show us from a real working product, not just a demo
Hands-on Supabase RLS policy experience
GitHub Actions cron job experience
Node.js or Python experience for data pipeline scripts
Experience working with SaaS billing, authentication, and protected content access
Good documentation habits

Nice to have:

Experience with Supabase Edge Functions
Experience with open data imports
Experience with Canadian government data sources
Experience with PostGIS or location-based project data
Experience building internal admin tools or data dashboards

Project structure:

This is a phased project. The immediate goal is to get the initial commercial version live as soon as possible. After launch, we plan to apply for funding to build out additional features and may need ongoing part-time backend support.

Budget:

Please provide your quote or milestone estimate for Phase 1. I am open to starting with an initial capped milestone to confirm fit, then expanding from there once the core setup is underway. The $10 is an approximate value because i had to put something in that space.
