JOB OVERVIEW

Company: EPW Law PLLC (United States)
Role: Legal Assistant / Paralegal Support
Type: Independent contractor (1099), full-time
Pay: $1-$2k USD per month (flat fee, paid monthly) depending on experience
Location: 100% remote
Hours: Full-time, must overlap with US Eastern Time business hours (9am to 6pm)

About Us
EPW Law PLLC is a US-based law firm looking for a sharp, self-directed legal assistant to become a core part of our team. This is not a data-entry VA role — we need someone who can actually do legal work: research US case law, draft memos, evaluate new client claims, and keep our case management system running like clockwork. If you take pride in legal work and want to grow with a firm rather than bounce between gigs, we want to meet you.

What You'll Be Doing

US case law research — pulling and analyzing cases, statutes, and regulations using Westlaw, Lexis, or similar tools
Drafting electronic memos (e-memos) summarizing your research for the attorney, with proper Bluebook citations
Conducting full client intakes — running first calls, asking the right questions, evaluating whether a claim is worth taking, and writing up clean intake notes without needing hand-holding
Filing in US state and federal courts — including e-filing through PACER and state e-filing portals
Managing the attorney's inbox — categorizing emails, flagging what's urgent, drafting responses, keeping nothing from slipping through
Migrating our case management system from Clio to Filevine — you'll be hands-on with this transition
Building and maintaining Filevine automations — project templates, workflow rules, doc-gen templates, Vinesign flows
Keeping us organized — calendar management, deadline tracking, document organization, follow-ups

Must-Have Requirements

Excellent written and spoken English (we will assess this in the interview)
2+ years of experience supporting a US law firm or US legal department
Hands-on experience researching US case law (Westlaw, Lexis, Fastcase, Casetext, or similar) and writing memos with Bluebook citations — you do not need a JD, but you do need to be genuinely comfortable doing this independently
Experience filing documents in US courts, including PACER for federal filings
Prior experience with Clio AND Filevine (both — not just one)
Demonstrated ability to conduct legal intakes and evaluate claims with minimal supervision
Strong organization — you naturally use task lists, calendars, and follow-up systems
Reliable high-speed internet and a quiet workspace for confidential client calls
Availability to overlap with US Eastern Time business hours for at least 4 hours per workday

Nice to Have

Experience with Filevine automation tools (ProjectFlow, native workflow automation, or Zapier/Make integrations with the Filevine API)
Experience with Vinesign, Lead Docket, or Periscope reporting in Filevine
Personal injury or litigation experience
Prior experience leading or supporting a case management system migration
Notary public (any jurisdiction)

What Success Looks Like in the First 90 Days

Inbox is triaged daily; nothing falls through the cracks
Clio ? Filevine migration plan is documented and underway
You've completed at least 3 e-memos that the attorney could hand to a client with only light edits
You've conducted intakes for new leads and recommended which to take
You've built at least one working automation in Filevine

What We Offer

$1,200–$1,500 USD per month flat fee (final number based on your experience and tested skill level)
100% remote — work from anywhere with stable internet
Long-term role
Direct mentorship from a practicing US attorney
Performance reviews with raises for candidates who consistently deliver
Paid US holidays observed

How to Apply
Do not just send a resume. Applicants who only send resumes will not be considered.
To apply, please complete our full application form here: https://forms.gle/buJuSEB349mHhdc36
The application includes short practical tasks (a sample research memo, a Filevine workflow scenario, and an intake hypothetical). These are how we evaluate fit — please take them seriously.
Strong applications will be invited to a 30-minute video interview.
We look forward to meeting you.
