Metal Fabrication Estimator

Purpose
Produce accurate, timely, and competitive quotes for Topweld's stainless steel fabrication and process equipment work using the Topweld machine costing system and quote template.
Key Responsibilities
– Triage incoming RFQs from ---------- ---------- within the agreed SLA.
– Read drawings and scopes, then build a bill of materials, machine time, labour, consumables, and freight for each job.
– Calculate cost using the Topweld machine costing system (13 machines, TCO-based rates) and apply the agreed margin.
– Apply the one-hour minimum on every machine and labour line.
– Issue quotes on the Topweld Word quote template with correct logo, ABN, licence number, and terms.
– Reference the correct Australian Standard on each quote (AS 1210, AS 4041, AS 3992, AS/NZS 3834.2, AS/NZS 1554.6, AS 3920.1, AS 4458).
– Obtain supplier pricing for materials above the threshold set by the Director.
– Maintain the live quote register and follow up open quotes at 3, 7, and 14 days.
– File every quote, calculation, and drawing in the SharePoint Ops library under the correct project folder.
– Send a weekly summary to the Director covering quotes issued, won, lost, and open.
Required Skills
– Experience estimating stainless steel fabrication, structural steel, or pressure piping work.
– Confident drawing interpretation including weld symbols and fabrication detail drawings.
– Working knowledge of cutting, forming, rolling, MIG, TIG, orbital welding, and machining.
– Familiarity with the Australian Standards listed above.
– Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint.
– Strong written English for direct client correspondence.
– Disciplined with deadlines, version control, and filing.
– Self-directed in a remote role.
Performance Measures
– Quote turnaround time against SLA.
– Quote conversion rate by value and count.
– Estimate accuracy against actual hours on completed jobs.
– Gross margin achieved against margin quoted.
– Filing and template compliance.
