Position Overview
The Accountant and Bookkeeper is responsible for managing daily financial operations and ensuring compliance with Australian accounting and taxation requirements. The role covers bookkeeping tasks such as reconciliations, invoicing, and accounts management, alongside statutory obligations including BAS lodgment, PAYG, superannuation, and income tax returns. This position plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting management with timely reporting and insights.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform daily bank reconciliations and ensure accuracy of financial transactions.
• Manage daily invoicing and maintain proper documentation.
• Oversee accounts receivable and accounts payable tracking, ensuring timely collections and payments.
• Prepare and lodge Business Activity Statements (BAS) in compliance with Australian Taxation Office (ATO) requirements.
• Handle PAYG withholding, superannuation lodgements, and income tax returns.
• Generate and present monthly and annual financial reports to management.
• Maintain compliance with relevant accounting standards and company policies.
• Collaborate with management to support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow monitoring.
• Undertake other finance or administrative tasks as may be assigned from time to time
Qualifications
• Minimum 2–3 years of hands-on experience with Xero accounting software.
• Solid understanding of Australian taxation laws and compliance requirements.
• Demonstrated experience in BAS lodgement, PAYG, superannuation, and income tax return preparation.
• Prior experience in bookkeeping and financial reporting within an Australian business context preferred.
Skills & Competencies
• Strong proficiency in Xero and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in financial data management.
• Strong organizational and time management skills to meet deadlines.
• Effective communication skills for liaising with management, clients, and external auditors.
• Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality of financial information.
• Problem-solving mindset with the ability to streamline processes and improve efficiency.
