JOB OVERVIEW

Video Editor Needed for Police Body Cam Documentary YouTube Channel

We are hiring an experienced long-form YouTube video editor for a police body cam / documentary-style channel focused on high-retention storytelling and cinematic editing.

The editing style should be comparable to channels such as Dr Insanity and Midwest Safety.

This is not basic social media editing. We are looking for someone who understands documentary pacing, tension building, viewer retention, and how to turn raw footage into compelling long-form content.

This position is intended to be long term for the right editor.

Responsibilities
Edit 20–60+ minute YouTube documentary videos
Work with police body cam footage, dash cam footage, CCTV footage, interrogation footage, 911 audio, and news clips
Structure footage into engaging narratives with strong pacing and retention
Create high-impact intros/hooks within the first 30–60 seconds
Enhance storytelling through music, sound design, subtitles, motion graphics, zooms, overlays, and cinematic pacing
Maintain viewer engagement during slower sections of footage
Organize large amounts of raw footage efficiently
Blur/redact sensitive information when necessary
Deliver polished, YouTube-ready videos optimized for audience retention
Required Skills

Applicants should have strong experience with:

Long-form YouTube editing
Documentary-style storytelling
Retention-focused pacing
Sound design and audio mixing
J-cuts / L-cuts
Motion graphics and keyframing
Dynamic subtitles/captions
Color correction and color matching
Zooms, punch-ins, motion tracking, and overlays
B-roll integration and visual enhancement
Managing large multi-source projects

Must be proficient in:

Adobe Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve

Bonus skills:

Adobe After Effects
Photoshop
Experience editing true crime, police, or investigative documentary content
Ideal Candidate

Has experience editing viral or high-performing long-form content
Can work independently with minimal supervision
Has strong attention to detail
Communicates professionally and consistently
Interested in building a long-term working relationship
