Cinematic Documentary Video Editor (Premiere Pro / After Effects) – Deep-Sea & Science Channel

The Project:
I am Brandon Newbanks, the creator behind mr.deepscience, a growing YouTube documentary channel focusing heavily on oceanic mysteries, deep-sea marine biology, and prehistoric apex predators.

I am hiring a lead video editor for ongoing work. The videos will range from 15 to 30 minutes in length, starting with a highly atmospheric documentary exploring the deepest parts of the Mariana Trench.

The Style:
We are NOT looking for fast-paced, flashing-subtitle, gaming-style edits. If your portfolio consists mostly of Hormozi-style short-form content, this is not the right fit.

We need an editor who understands how to build tension and atmosphere through pacing and sound design. Your editing style should closely match the cinematic, slow-burn feel of channels like New Nature, Cosmicus, or Astrum Earth.

Key Responsibilities:

Visual World-Building: You will take a highly-directed, natural-sounding voiceover and build an immersive visual world around it for 15 to 30 minutes at a time.

Specific B-Roll Sourcing: You must be highly skilled at finding and integrating cinematic stock footage. For our current project, that means sourcing murky underwater environments, marine snow, bioluminescent creatures, and deep-sea submersibles (including those bearing specific national flags).

Document & Asset Integration: You will frequently need to animate scientific diagrams, global coordinate maps, and depth charts using parallax effects or slow, deliberate camera movements.

Masterful Sound Design: This is the most critical requirement. Visuals are only half the experience. You must be able to layer low-frequency underwater drones, muffled sonar pings, shifting debris, and suspenseful background tracks to maintain audience retention across a long runtime.

Requirements:

Expert proficiency in Premiere Pro and After Effects.

A strong understanding of YouTube audience retention metrics—specifically, how to visually hook a viewer in the first 60 seconds and manage the emotional pacing throughout a 30-minute documentary.

Ability to work independently and creatively interpret the script's dark, mysterious mood.

I will provide the voiceover, and you will need to prove you can source the right high-contrast footage and build out the underwater sound design.
