E-Commerce Shipping Analyst

Overview
We are seeking a highly analytical E-Commerce Shipping Analyst to own and optimize our DTC shipping costs and performance, with a direct impact on margin and efficiency. This role focuses on understanding what we’re being charged, identifying cost drivers, and improving shipping efficiency across every order.
This is not a traditional shipping or warehouse role. You will focus on analyzing parcel shipping costs (UPS, FedEx, USPS), improving packaging and dimensional efficiency, and optimizing shipping logic to reduce overall cost and improve ROI.
Key Responsibilities
Shipping Cost Analysis & Optimization
Analyze shipping costs across parcel shipments to identify key cost drivers (zones, dimensional weight, surcharges, service levels)
Develop reports and insights to track cost-per-shipment and identify savings opportunities
Identify and implement initiatives to reduce shipping costs and improve overall efficiency
Carrier & Service Optimization
Evaluate carrier performance, rates, and service levels
Optimize carrier mix, service selection, and shipping rules based on cost and performance
Support rate reviews and ensure accurate billing across carriers
Packaging & Dimensional Optimization
Optimize packaging, carton sizes, and master pack quantities to reduce dimensional weight and shipping costs
Conduct packaging and dimensional weight experiments to validate cost-saving opportunities
Improve cube utilization and overall shipping efficiency
Shipping Systems & Data
Work within shipping platforms (e.g., Shippo or similar) to improve automation and shipping logic
Maintain accurate shipping data and reporting systems
Audit carrier invoices and identify discrepancies, refunds, and surcharge issues
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Collaborate with warehouse and product teams to implement packaging and shipping improvements
Help improve shipping workflows, rules, and operational efficiency
Qualifications
Core Requirements
2–5+ years of experience in shipping, logistics, e-commerce operations, or transportation analysis
Experience with parcel shipping (UPS, FedEx, USPS) in a DTC or e-commerce environment
Strong understanding of shipping cost drivers (dimensional weight, zones, surcharges, etc.)
Analytical Skills
Proficiency in Excel for data analysis and reporting
Ability to identify patterns, cost drivers, and optimization opportunities
Highly analytical, detail-oriented, and cost-focused
Nice to Have
Experience with shipping platforms (Shippo, ShipStation, EasyPost, etc.)
Experience with packaging optimization or dimensional weight reduction
Familiarity with LTL or freight shipping
