JOB OVERVIEW

Oak Path Counseling Services is a growing, clinician-led group mental health practice based in Massachusetts, USA. We are committed to providing high-quality, compassionate care while building sustainable systems that support both clients and clinicians.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Medical Billing Specialist to support our insurance operations, specifically around benefit verification and claim denial/rejection resolution.

This is a remote, part-time (approx. 10 hours/week) contractor role ideal for someone with experience in U.S. behavioral health billing who is highly organized, proactive, and comfortable working independently.

Key Responsibilities

Benefit Eligibility:

-Verify client insurance benefits prior to intake and as needed
-Confirm coverage for outpatient mental health services (CPT codes such as 90791, 90834, 90837, etc.)
-Document deductibles, copays, coinsurance, authorization requirements, and session limits clearly
-Communicate findings in a clean, organized format for internal team use

Claim Denial & Rejection Resolution

-Review denied and rejected claims and identify root causes
-Correct and resubmit claims in a timely manner
-Track trends in denials and flag recurring issues
-Communicate with insurance companies as needed (calls, portals, follow-ups)
-Maintain accurate documentation of actions taken

Qualifications

-Proven experience with U.S. medical billing (behavioral health strongly preferred)
-Strong understanding of insurance terminology and claim lifecycle
-Experience with denial management and resolution
-Familiarity with CPT codes for outpatient therapy (90791, 90834, 90837, etc.)
-Experience using EHRs and/or billing platforms
-Excellent attention to detail and organization
-Strong written English communication skills
-Ability to work independently and meet deadlines

Schedule & Compensation

-Approx. 10 hours per week
-Flexible schedule (with some overlap preferred for communication)
-1099 contractor role
-Competitive hourly rate based on experience

We are looking for someone who:

-Takes ownership of their work
-Thinks critically and problem-solves (not just task completion)
-Communicates clearly and proactively
-Wants to be part of a mission-driven, growing practice

To Apply

Please include:

-A brief introduction and your relevant experience with U.S. medical billing
-Specific experience with claim denials/rejections
-Any experience with behavioral health billing
-Your hourly rate
-Your availability (days/times)

This is a great opportunity to work with a supportive, organized team and have a meaningful impact on improving billing systems in a growing mental health practice.
