Who is Bare?
Bare is the new way to funeral. We are a holistic end of life care provider, allowing our families to grieve in their own way, at their own pace, knowing their loved one is cared for by a team who truly understand their needs.
By combining empathy with technology, we’re creating end-of-life experiences that are simple, personalized and affordable. In only five years, we’ve served more than 30,000 families, have become Australia’s most awarded end-of-life provider (with awards in customer service, innovation and digital disruption), and have built a team of more than 100 people committed to changing the way Australians deal with end-of-life. And we’re just getting started.
We’re looking for a passionate and detail-oriented Junior Automation Specialist to join our high-performing remote team. If you're a proactive professional who thrives on ownership, continuous improvement, and meaningful work, we’d love to meet you.
The Junior Automation Specialist works alongside with our current Automation Specialist to build, maintain, and document automations that run Bare Group's finance operations. The role is hands-on technical from day one, with growing autonomy as trust and skill build. Reports to Automation Specialist. Day-to-day collaboration with finance tea
Primary responsibilities:
-Build small-to-medium automations end-to-end under Automation Specialist's direction. Make. com scenarios, Google Apps Script, occasional Python — typically 4-12 hours per build.
-Maintain existing automations. Investigate and fix breaks, rate-limit issues, schema changes, expired auth tokens. ~30% of weekly time.
-Write and maintain SOPs. Every live automation needs a written runbook — what it does, how to fix it if broken, who to escalate to.
-Document new builds. Each new automation ships with a build guide so it's not Automation Specialist's knowledge.
-Respond to finance team Slack queries. Automation Specialist still owns the strategic conversations; junior handles routine tactical follow-ups.
-Attend weekly Monday call
-Co-prepare weekly FinOps live teaching sessions with Automation Specialist.
Must-haves:
-1-3 years of professional experience in automation, low-code platforms, or technical support roles.
-Strong working knowledge of at least one no-code/low-code platform: Make. com (preferred), Zapier, n8n, Power Automate.
-Comfortable reading and writing JavaScript or Python at intermediate level — enough to read API documentation and write a script that fetches/transforms/posts data.
-Comfortable with Google Workspace (Sheets formulas, Apps Script, Drive permissions).
-Comfortable reading and consuming REST API documentation (HTTP requests, JSON, OAuth basics).
-Strong written English — Slack, documentation, build guides. Verbal English to a level where they can present in a teaching session.
-Detail-oriented mindset. The work is failure-mode intolerant — a $0.01 invoice rounding error or a wrong AccountCode causes real downstream pain.
-Self-managed and remote-ready. Will be working Manila hours collaborating with Australia-based finance team across timezone overlap.
Strong nice-to-haves:
-Direct experience with Xero API, HubSpot API, or Stripe API.
-Direct experience with Make. com (over Zapier).
-Experience writing technical SOPs or runbooks.
-Experience using Claude, ChatGPT, or other AI tools as a working partner (not just for chat).
-Familiarity with funeral, healthcare, or other process-heavy industries (though not required).
-Background in finance operations, accounting, or accounts payable is a bonus but not essential.
