JOB OVERVIEW

We are seeking an Accounting Associate who will support our fractional CFO team in providing high-quality accounting services to our clients. This role works directly with our CFOs and accounting leads to maintain and improve our clients’ accounting systems and financial processes.

This is a client-facing role. While the position begins as an Accounting Associate, the intention is for the successful candidate to grow into a Lead Accountant role within approximately six months.

Our firm provides outsourced accounting and finance services to growing businesses. We support clients with bookkeeping, financial reporting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, accounting operations, and payroll accounting.
The ideal candidate is comfortable stepping into unfamiliar accounting environments, assessing existing processes, identifying opportunities for improvement, and helping implement better systems.

Core Responsibilities:
Client Accounting Support
Maintain and improve client accounting records
Assist with monthly close processes
Prepare journal entries and reconciliations
Maintain revenue recognition and deferred revenue schedules
Support inventory and cost accounting
Manage accounts receivable and accounts payable workflows
Support financial reporting for client leadership and CFOs

Accounting Diagnostics & Improvement
- Review existing accounting records and identify inconsistencies or areas needing improvement
- Investigate unusual balances or discrepancies in the general ledger
- Help implement improved accounting processes and workflows
- Work with CFOs to improve monthly close efficiency and financial reporting reliability

Client Communication
- Communicate with clients via email and occasionally in meetings
- Explain accounting questions or issues clearly to non-accounting stakeholders
- Gather information from clients to resolve accounting questions


Internal Collaboration
- Coordinate with accounting associates and leads to ensure work is properly prioritized
- Manage deadlines around client reporting and meetings
- Escalate issues when necessary while maintaining ownership of tasks

Qualifications:
Required:
3+ years of accounting experience
Strong understanding of general ledger accounting
Experience with month-end close processes
Experience with revenue recognition and balance sheet reconciliations
Proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets
Ability to explain accounting concepts clearly in writing

Preferred:
Experience working with multiple clients or business units
Experience cleaning up or inheriting existing accounting systems
Experience with inventory & cost accounting
Experience supporting CFOs or financial leadership
CPA or CPA-track (not required)
