ABOUT THE COMPANY
This organization is a mission-driven nonprofit headquartered in the United States. It operates a national
network of grassroots chapters focused on advocacy, education, and community organizing. The organization
partners with progressive groups nationwide to advance equity, inclusion, and social impact through coalition
building and grassroots engagement.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a creative, reliable Social Media Graphic Designer to support this nonprofit team with visual
content creation across social media platforms. This is a part-time role (~10 hours/week) ideal for a designer
who produces high-quality work consistently and is available during set hours for real-time collaboration.
The primary focus is designing social media graphics for Instagram, with content repurposed across
and other platforms. The internal team provides content direction and approved messaging internally. The
designer will bring those ideas to life visually.
This is a growth-oriented position with a clear path from 10 hours/week to 20 hours/week based on
performance and organizational need.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Social Media Content Design (Primary Focus)
1. Design social media graphics for Instagram (static posts, carousels, stories), with content repurposed for
Facebook
2. Create visually compelling, on-brand content that aligns with the organization’s mission, voice, and
visual identity.
3. Translate approved messaging, campaign themes, and content briefs into polished, publish-ready
designs.
4. Maintain consistency in brand aesthetics across all visual content, including color palette, typography,
and layout.
Collaboration & Communication
1. Collaborate directly with the COO and internal team on content direction, feedback, and revisions.
2. Be available and responsive during agreed-upon working hours for real-time communication and
iteration.
3. Incorporate feedback promptly and deliver revisions within expected turnaround times.
4. Maintain organized files and design assets for easy access and reuse by the team.
Brand & Content Support
1. Adapt existing design templates for recurring content series and campaigns.
2. Support special projects such as event graphics, fundraising visuals, and advocacy campaign materials
as assigned.
3. Stay current with social media design trends and bring fresh visual ideas to the team.
REQUIREMENTS
Must-Have Qualifications
1. 2+ years of experience in graphic design with a portfolio demonstrating social media content creation.
2. Proficiency with Canva, including the ability to create professional, polished designs efficiently.
3. Strong visual design sense, including layout, typography, color theory, and brand consistency.
4. Ability to take content direction and approved messaging and translate it into compelling visual designs
without needing to develop copy or strategy.
5. Reliable availability during agreed-upon working hours with consistent responsiveness to messages and
feedback.
6. Ability to work independently, manage multiple design requests, and meet deadlines without constant
oversight.
7. Strong written communication skills in English for collaborating with the U.S.-based team.
8. Reliable internet connection and ability to overlap with U.S. Pacific Time and East Coast hours.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Experience with Adobe Illustrator or other professional design tools beyond Canva.
2. Background in designing for nonprofit, advocacy, or mission-driven organizations.
3. Experience creating content specifically for Instagram (posts, stories, reels covers, carousels).
4. Familiarity with social media best practices including image dimensions, aspect ratios, and
platform-specific formatting.
5. Experience working with brand guidelines and style guides.
6. Comfort with learning new tools and adapting to evolving content needs. A growth mindset is essential.
KEY TRAITS WE’RE LOOKING FOR
1. Creative and Consistent: Produces high-quality, on-brand visuals reliably. Every design reflects the
organization’s standards and mission.
2. Available and Responsive: This is the most important trait for this role. The team needs a designer
who is present, reachable, and responsive during agreed working hours. Availability and communication
are non-negotiable.
3. Detail-Oriented: Catches inconsistencies in design, spacing, alignment, and brand elements before
deliverables are submitted.
4. Self-Starter: Takes initiative, manages their own workload, and delivers results without needing to be
micromanaged.
5. Mission-Aligned: Understands and respects the purpose behind the organization’s work. While deep
subject matter expertise is not required, genuine respect for the organization’s mission and values is
expected.
6. Team Player: Treated as an integral part of the team, not a separate contractor. Expected to contribute
ideas, take feedback constructively, and grow into greater responsibility over time.
7. Transparent Communicator: Speaks up when something is unclear, flags capacity issues early, and
communicates progress honestly.
