Lead Developer -- Build a TMS From Scratch

We're a $35M tech-enabled freight brokerage based in Phoenix, AZ. We move freight across LTL, truckload, ocean, drayage, and Mexico cross-border. We're building our own transportation management system (TMS) called FlowTMS, and we need someone to own it.

This isn't a maintenance role. There's no legacy codebase to inherit. You're building the entire platform from zero -- architecture, data model, API layer, UI, deployment, all of it. You'll work directly with the President of Operations and have full ownership of technical decisions, including the tech stack.


What you're building:

FlowTMS is the operating system for our brokerage. It handles quoting, shipment management, carrier matching, tracking, invoicing, and reporting across all our service lines. You'll be designing and shipping production features from day one, not writing specs for someone else to build.


What we're looking for:

- You've built something from scratch before. Not maintained, not contributed to -- built. We want to see a project where you made the architecture decisions and shipped it.
- Strong in React, TypeScript, and Node.js. Experience with Next.js, PostgreSQL, and cloud deployment (AWS, Vercel, or similar) is a plus.
- You can communicate clearly. You'll be working US hours with a US-based leadership team. That means real-time collaboration, explaining trade-offs on calls, and asking good questions. Strong spoken and written English is a must.
- You're comfortable making decisions with incomplete information. We'll give you the business context and the problems to solve. You figure out how to build it.
- You don't need to be managed. Weekly check-ins, not daily standups. Ownership, not tickets.
