I’m looking for a part-time Nonprofit Grant Writer & Proposal Assistant to support grant writing and proposal development for my nonprofit clients.
This role is ideal for someone who is strong in grant writing, proposal development, and written communication, and who can also support related tasks such as reviewing guidelines, drafting reports, adapting content for different funders, and keeping proposal materials organized and on track.
The primary focus of this role is helping move grant applications forward from outline to draft to submission support. I’m looking for someone who can work independently with background materials, previous proposals, funder guidelines, and strategic direction, without needing step-by-step instruction for every task.
About the Business
I run a fundraising consulting business that supports nonprofit organizations with strategy, campaigns, and systems. A key part of my work includes helping clients develop strong grant applications and manage the writing process in a clear, organized, and professional way.
I’m looking for someone who can support that work with strong writing, editing, attention to detail, and a willingness to work within established systems and workflows.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Review funder guidelines and summarize key application requirements, questions, and deadlines
- Draft grant proposals, letters of inquiry, reports, and other funder-facing content using source materials I provide
- Adapt existing content for different funders and application formats
- Pull key information from client documents, websites, reports, previous proposals, and approved source materials
- Help organize proposal materials, supporting documents, and standard content
- Maintain grant trackers, calendars, and application status updates
- Edit and revise draft content based on feedback
- Flag missing information, inconsistencies, or questions before submission
- Support a clear and organized workflow across multiple deadlines and client projects
What Matters Most
Strong writing and editing skills are the most important requirements for this role.
A key aspect of our process is working within an AI-supported writing workflow. Our process uses AI in the preliminary drafting stage, followed by human review, refinement, and adaptation. I’m looking for someone who can use AI efficiently to support early drafts, then apply strong judgment, editing skills, and attention to detail to ensure the final writing is accurate, clear, funder-aligned, and reflective of the client’s voice, program focus, and approved source materials.
Strong written English is essential. Attention to detail is also very important, especially when working across different deadlines, applications, and supporting documents.
Experience with nonprofit grant writing, proposal support, or donor communications is a strong asset.
This Role Is a Good Fit If You:
- Are confident in your writing, editing, and proofreading skills
- Can review funder guidelines and pull out the most important details
- Are comfortable turning background information into strong draft content
- Can adapt writing for different funders, formats, and audiences
- Are comfortable using AI as part of a structured writing process
- Need minimal direction once you understand the goals and workflow
- Are highly organized and able to manage details across multiple projects
- Are comfortable working within project management systems like ClickUp and following established workflow templates
- Catch small mistakes, inconsistencies, and missing pieces before submitting work
- Communicate clearly and ask thoughtful questions when needed
- Are interested in a longer-term working relationship
Qualities Needed to Succeed
Integrity
You communicate honestly, take responsibility for your work, and let me know if something is unclear or delayed.
Commitment
I’m looking for someone interested in building a longer-term working relationship, not just completing one quick task.
Desire to Learn
I value someone who is open to feedback, willing to improve, and interested in growing with the role over time.
Attention to Detail
You notice inconsistencies, missing information, formatting issues, and small mistakes before work is submitted.
Good Judgment
You know how to use AI as a support tool, not a substitute for thinking. You review outputs carefully, verify details, and make sure the final work is accurate and appropriate for the client and funder.
