Digital Audio Editor

Our company, the World’s Largest Independent Producer of Audiobooks is considering of expanding operations in the Philippines. For the test phase, we’re looking for a few employees to work from home on their own equipment to edit our audiobook content. If the test is successful we will be hiring 30 or 40 editors for full time positions with benefits.

For the test phase, we’re looking for dedicated employees willing to work from home on a freelance basis.

Position Requirements:

• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
• A good Windows based PC
• High Speed internet access
• Experience with either audio, video or music production software
• Reliable
• Computer and internet savvy.

Audiobooks are a multibillion dollar business in the US and is expanding rapidly. They are a recording of an actor (Narrator) reading a book so the listener can listen to it instead of reading. Consumers listen to audiobooks while driving, doing housework, or other activities where they cannot read. They are downloaded to their phones or listened to on CDs or cassettes.

The audiobooks are recorded in our New York City based recording studios. Digital Audio Editors will be responsible for downloading the raw audio files and script PDFs from our servers. The purpose make the finished file sound as if the narrator read the book from start to finish with no mistakes. To do so, the raw files will need to be edited to:

• Remove any noises “in the clear” - meaning remove noises in between sentences or phrases
• Remove loud or noisy breaths - sometimes the narrator will have clicks or pops from mouth noises in the breaths, or breathe in too deeply, which can be distracting.
• Take out bad takes or pickups - bad takes, which are also called pickups happen when the narrator reads a sentence, makes a mistake and has to go back and read the sentence again, or “pick it up” again. These pickups must be removed.
• Fix pacing problems - pacing is considered the length of the pauses between sentences or phrases. Sometimes they can be too long, or maybe too short which sounds unnatural or negatively impacts the performance.

Upon completion, the session file will be uploaded back to our servers for the QC (quality control) process. During QC, our technicians will listen to the files to ensure there are no mistakes.
