Position Overview

The Owner-Operator and Driver Recruiter is responsible for identifying, recruiting, and onboarding truck drivers and owner-operators who can haul freight for the company’s freight brokerage operations throughout the United States.

This role focuses on building a reliable and scalable network of drivers capable of moving freight across multiple freight markets including ports, regional freight corridors, and national shipping lanes.

The recruiter will proactively identify independent drivers, small trucking companies, and owner-operators interested in hauling loads for the brokerage. The recruiter will maintain a database of available drivers and ensure the operations team has access to qualified transportation capacity when freight opportunities arise.

This position plays a critical role in ensuring the brokerage has access to the transportation capacity needed to support customer shipments.

Purpose of the Role

The primary purpose of the Driver Recruiter is to continuously build and maintain a network of qualified drivers and owner-operators who are capable of hauling freight secured by the brokerage’s sales team.

By maintaining a reliable pool of drivers, the recruiter helps ensure the company can fulfill freight commitments quickly and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

The Owner-Operator and Driver Recruiter will be responsible for sourcing, contacting, and onboarding truck drivers who are capable of hauling freight in the United States.

Responsibilities include:

• Identifying and contacting independent truck drivers and owner-operators
• Recruiting small trucking companies interested in hauling freight
• Posting driver recruitment advertisements on driver job boards and trucking forums
• Contacting drivers through phone, email, and online platforms
• Maintaining a database of qualified drivers and trucking companies
• Assisting with the onboarding process for drivers who join the network
• Maintaining ongoing communication with drivers to confirm availability
• Tracking recruitment activity using the company’s operational tools

The recruiter will work closely with operations to ensure that freight loads can be matched with available drivers.

Driver Types Recruited

The recruiter will primarily focus on recruiting:

• Owner-operators with their own trucks
• Independent truck drivers
• Small trucking companies with multiple trucks
• Regional carriers capable of handling specific freight lanes

These drivers may handle:

• Truckload freight (FTL)
• Port drayage freight
• Regional freight lanes
• Long-haul freight

Recruitment Sources

Drivers may be recruited through several channels, including:

• Trucking Facebook groups
• Driver job boards
• Owner-operator forums
• Trucking communities and online networks
• Direct outreach to small trucking companies

The recruiter must be comfortable proactively reaching out to drivers and carriers to introduce the company and explain available freight opportunities.

Operational Tracking

All recruitment activity must be documented using the company’s operational tools.

The recruiter will track:

• Drivers contacted
• Driver contact information
• Equipment type (truck and trailer type)
• Freight lanes the driver prefers
• Availability and geographic coverage

Maintaining accurate records ensures the operations team can quickly identify drivers capable of hauling specific loads.

Weekly Performance Expectations

Typical weekly performance targets include:

• Contacting 30–50 drivers or trucking companies
• Recruiting 3–5 qualified owner-operators into the company network
• Expanding the driver database continuously

Over time, the recruiter will build a large and reliable network of drivers capable of covering multiple freight markets.

Geographic Freight Markets

The brokerage may operate across multiple U.S. freight markets. Initial operations may focus on freight hubs such as:

• Savannah
• Charleston
• Los Angeles
• Houston
• New York / New Jersey

Drivers may operate in regional lanes or long-haul routes depending on their equipment and operating preferences.

Candidates for this role should have:

• Strong communication skills
• Experience recruiting contractors or drivers (preferred)
• Ability to organize and track driver information
• Comfort contacting drivers and trucking companies
