Freelance MS SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA)

We are seeking a highly skilled Freelance MS SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) to support, maintain, and optimize mission-critical SQL Server environments. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in high availability, disaster recovery, database administration, performance tuning, and production support within complex enterprise environments.

This role requires deep technical expertise in Microsoft SQL Server technologies, with a particular focus on Always On Availability Groups, Database Mirroring, Replication, Linked Servers, Clustered Environments, and T-SQL. Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as SolarWinds and New Relic is also essential.

The selected consultant will be responsible for ensuring database availability, stability, performance, and operational excellence across production systems.



Key Responsibilities

Administer, monitor, and support Microsoft SQL Server databases in production environments

Configure, manage, and troubleshoot Always On Availability Groups

Support and maintain Database Mirroring, Replication, and Linked Server configurations

Work within clustered SQL Server environments to ensure high availability and resiliency

Perform advanced T-SQL scripting, troubleshooting, and performance tuning

Investigate and resolve database performance issues, blocking, deadlocks, failed jobs, and query inefficiencies

Support backup, restore, recovery, and database maintenance activities

Monitor database health and server performance using SolarWinds and New Relic

Participate in root cause analysis and recommend preventive and corrective actions

Ensure database systems are secure, stable, and aligned with operational best practices

Required Technical Skills

Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server Administration

Expertise in Always On Availability Groups

Hands-on experience with Database Mirroring

Strong knowledge of SQL Server Replication

Experience with Linked Servers

Experience supporting Cluster Environments

Advanced proficiency in T-SQL

Experience with SolarWinds

Experience with New Relic
