Position:
Black Millennial Cafe (BMC)
Position Overview
Black Millennial Cafe (BMC) is seeking a Research Insights & Publications Strategist to translate our original research into compelling publications that inform leaders, influence public conversation, and advance the work of the Black Church and broader community.
This role sits at the intersection of data analysis, storytelling, and thought leadership. The strategist will interpret findings from BMC surveys, studies, and research initiatives and transform them into monographs, research briefs, white papers, and visual data insights that equip churches, organizations, and leaders with actionable intelligence.
The ideal candidate understands how to move from raw data to narrative insight, producing research-backed publications that are both intellectually rigorous and accessible to practitioners.
Key Responsibilities
Research Interpretation
• Analyze quantitative and qualitative data from BMC studies and surveys
• Identify key themes, patterns, and insights within research findings
• Translate complex data into clear narratives and strategic conclusions
• Collaborate with the research team to ensure accuracy and integrity of analysis
Publication Development
• Write and develop BMC publications including:
Research monographs
White papers
Executive summaries
Insight briefs
Reports for partners and clients
• Structure reports to highlight key insights, implications, and recommended actions
Data Storytelling
• Transform research findings into clear, engaging narratives
• Identify the most important insights for leaders and decision-makers
• Ensure all publications maintain BMC’s voice, authority, and thought leadership
Visual Data Collaboration
• Work with designers to translate research findings into visual formats such as:
Infographics
Data visualizations
Research dashboards
Presentation decks
• Provide clear direction on which insights should be visualized and why
Thought Leadership Development
• Contribute to BMC’s reputation as a leading research voice on faith, community, and culture
• Help shape the narrative around key findings emerging from BMC’s studies
• Identify opportunities to produce insight-driven publications from existing data
Key Deliverables
The Research Insights & Publications Strategist will regularly produce:
• Research monographs
• White papers
• Executive summaries
• Insight briefs
• Infographic content outlines
• Publication-ready reports for partners and clients
Qualifications
Required
• Strong ability to interpret and synthesize research data
• Experience writing research reports, policy briefs, or analytical publications
• Exceptional writing and storytelling skills
• Ability to translate complex research into accessible insights
• Experience working with quantitative and/or qualitative data
Preferred
• Background in sociology, public policy, theology, social sciences, or research methods
• Experience with survey research or research institutes
• Familiarity with data visualization and research communications
• Experience producing publications for thought leadership organizations

The ideal candidate is someone who can look at a dataset and immediately begin asking the right questions, uncovering the deeper story within the numbers. They understand that research is not just about reporting findings, but about revealing meaning and implications for real-world impact.
They are equally comfortable analyzing data, writing research reports, and collaborating with designers to bring insights to life visually.
