JOB OVERVIEW

Job Type: Contract
Location: Remote

We are seeking an experienced CPA/Bookkeeper with a strong background in government contracting and/or staffing firms to manage accounting operations, ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, and support accurate financial reporting. This role requires hands-on experience with contract billing, payroll accounting, and regulatory compliance in a government contracting or staffing environment.

Key Responsibilities
• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts in accordance with GAAP
• Manage full-cycle accounting for government contracts and staffing engagements
• Prepare and submit client invoices, including cost-plus, time-and-materials (T&M), and fixed-price contracts
• Track labor costs, indirect rates, and overhead allocations
• Ensure compliance with FAR, DCAA, and applicable state and federal regulations
• Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash flow
• Process and reconcile payroll, including W2 and 1099 classifications, overtime, and fringe benefits
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
• Prepare and file federal, state, and local tax returns
• Support audits, including DCAA or other government audits
• Monitor contract funding, ceilings, and burn rates
• Maintain organized financial and contract documentation
• Collaborate with operations and HR teams to ensure accurate billing and payroll data
• Provide financial reporting and analysis to support management decision-making

Qualifications
• Active CPA license preferred (or in progress)
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• Minimum of 3–5 years of accounting/bookkeeping experience in government contracting and/or staffing companies
• Strong knowledge of FAR, DCAA compliance, and government contract accounting
• Experience with labor-based billing and timekeeping systems
• Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Deltek, NetSuite, or similar)
• Strong understanding of payroll compliance and worker classification (W2 vs. 1099)
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Strong communication and analytical skills

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with staffing firm accounting, including temp, temp-to-hire, and direct-hire models
• Familiarity with indirect rate structures and cost pools
• Experience working with DCAA auditors or government agencies
• Advanced Excel skills
