About the Role:
We are seeking a meticulous Accounting Manager to own the financial integrity of our residential portfolio. This is a specialized Trust Accounting role. You will be the guardian of funds belonging to owners and tenants, ensuring 100% compliance with state regulations and company standards.
The Accounting Manager will be responsible for the financial integrity and reporting of the residential portfolio that Streamline manages on behalf of its owners. This role focuses on ‘Trust Accounting’ - the management of funds belonging to others (owners and tenants) and ensuring compliance with state real estate regulations and company standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Property Management Accounting
- Owner Distributions: Execute monthly owner payment cycles. Verify clearing status, run financial diagnostics, calculate management fees, and execute ACH payouts. via AppFolio.
- Bank Reconciliations: Perform monthly three-way reconciliations between the bank balance, the software book balance, and the individual property ledgers.
- Closing the Month: Ensure all AppFolio diagnostics are cleared and books are "clean" before the new cycle begins.
- Tenant and Owner Transactions: Oversee security deposit refunds, move-out accounting, and daily ledger adjustments (move-ins, chargebacks, etc.).
- Process Security Deposit refunds and move-out accounting for tenants.
- Oversee Bookkeeping team to ensure invoices are entered correctly.
Process Management & Reporting:
- Improve upon and develop new processes to improve accounting and bookkeeping at the company with an eye to automate processes and use best practices from Appfolio and other companies
- Serve as the technical point of contact for complex owner statement inquiries.
- Empower Property Managers by providing clear financial context for client-facing discussions.
- Year-End Reporting: Prepare and distribute 1099s to vendors and owners; provide year-end financial packages for tax purposes.
Requirements:
- 3+ years experience in Accounting with minimum 2+ years in Residential Property Management accounting. Candidates with no prior experience in property management will not be considered
- Expert in AppFolio or Buildium - You should know the shortcuts, the reports, and the common pitfalls
- Strong understanding of Trust accounting principles
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Fluent English, great written and verbal communication
- Self-starter and organizational skills
Compensation & Schedule
- Full-time, 40 hours per week, remote contractor position
