We are a Canadian-based company shipping industrial and utility products into the United States. We are looking for a remote Customs Compliance Specialist to support U.S. import compliance, with an immediate focus on post-entry corrections and duty recovery under USMCA/CUSMA.
This is an execution role. You will not be filing entries directly with U.S. Customs, but you will be responsible for preparing accurate, defensible documentation that is submitted through our licensed customs broker.
Key Responsibilities
Review historical U.S. shipments that have already cleared customs
Identify duty overpayments related to incorrect HS classification or origin
Validate USMCA/CUSMA eligibility for U.S., Canadian, and Mexican origin goods
Prepare corrected documentation packages (commercial invoices, origin statements, supporting data) for broker submission
Support post-entry correction workflows and compliance audits
Ongoing compliance review of products to ensure correct HS codes and documentation for future shipments
Required Qualifications
Background in Customs Administration, Trade Compliance, or Customs Brokerage
Certified Customs Broker or equivalent formal certification
Practical experience with:
HS classification
Origin determination
Trade agreements (USMCA/CUSMA strongly preferred)
Comfortable with research-driven compliance work and regulatory interpretation
Strong attention to detail — accuracy is non-negotiable
Able to work independently in a remote environment
Nice to Have (Not Mandatory)
Direct experience with U.S. post-entry corrections
Exposure to industrial, utility, or technical products
Prior collaboration with U.S. customs brokers
Important Notes
This is not a training-only role. Broker oversight is provided, but you must be capable of producing compliant work with limited hand-holding.
Candidates with academic knowledge only and no applied experience should not apply.
This role may expand into a broader compliance function after the initial correction phase is completed.
