Shopify Theme Migration Expert (Minimal to Horizon/Base Theme)

About Us

We are an established U.S. e-commerce company in the building materials and design space with a long-running Shopify store: ---------- .
Our site has been built and optimized over many years around the capabilities of the Shopify Minimal theme. We are now ready to migrate to a modern base theme.

We are looking for a Shopify theme expert to guide and implement this transition so that we can launch cleanly and maintain the site ourselves without becoming dependent on a developer for everyday changes.

Project Overview

We want to migrate from the legacy Minimal theme to a modern Shopify theme (preferably Horizon or another lightweight base theme). Many of the features we rely on are not available out of the box in newer themes, so we need an experienced professional to:

Recommend the best base theme

Configure it properly

Implement key functionality

Train us so we can maintain it internally

This is both a hands-on build and a strategic advisory role.

Key Requirements

We need the new theme to support the following:

Collection Pages

Left-hand navigation / filtering layout

Ability to filter by attributes

Clean, scannable layout for large product catalogs

Product & Collection Display

Display Shopify Vendor field on:

Collection pages

Product pages

Support for large product libraries

Strong product page layout for design-driven products

General Goals

Keep the site lightweight and fast

Avoid excessive apps where possible

Use native Shopify functionality when feasible

Create a structure that we can manage internally

What We’re Looking For

You are:

Highly experienced with Shopify theme customization

Comfortable working with Dawn, Horizon, or base themes

Skilled in Liquid, theme settings, and metafields

Able to recommend best practices, not just code

Strong in UX for e-commerce navigation

Comfortable working with an established live store

Most important:
We want to launch without becoming developer dependent.
You should be willing to explain your work and document key decisions so we can maintain the site.

Set up development environment

Configure theme to meet requirements

Implement vendor display functionality

Implement left-nav collection layout

Migrate core styling and structure

Assist with testing and launch

Provide documentation and guidance

Strong UX sense

Ability to suggest improvements

Experience with design-heavy product sites

Timeline

Flexible timeline but prefer steady progress and clear milestones.
