We are an Australian construction and modular building group creating this role for the first time as part of our growth.
We are seeking a capable Quantity Surveyor / Takeoff Specialist to help establish and build our takeoff and estimating function from the ground up. This role goes beyond producing quantities — you will be involved in designing workflows, templates, and systems that will be used across all future projects.
You will work directly with the business owner and estimating team on residential and modular construction projects. The right candidate is comfortable working without existing systems, takes ownership, and improves processes over time.
This is a long-term, remote contractor role with the opportunity to increase hours and responsibility as the business scales.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare accurate quantity takeoffs from architectural and engineering drawings
Develop and maintain takeoff workflows, templates, and BOQ formats
Assist with cost planning and estimate preparation
Identify scope gaps, errors, and risks within drawings
Manage revisions and version control as designs change
Continuously improve speed, accuracy, and consistency of takeoffs
Skills and Experience
Experience as a Quantity Surveyor, Estimator, or Takeoff Specialist
Strong ability to read construction drawings
Experience in residential construction (modular or prefabricated experience is an advantage)
Comfortable working in an environment without established systems
High attention to detail and strong organisational skills
Clear written English communication
Systems & Tools
This is a foundational role. Software, templates, and workflows will be developed collaboratively. You will help recommend and implement tools suited to residential and modular construction. Prior experience designing or improving QS systems is highly valued.
