About the Job
Seeking a creative, detail-oriented editor with an aesthetic eye and preferably passion for food, who can turn 4K raw multi-cam and A/B roll home-cooking footage into a polished, high-retention 8–12 min video. 1 long-form video weekly, with 3-5 repurposed vertical shorts. Potential for higher rate and long-term employment as the channel grows.
About the Channel
I am a chef, artist and entrepreneur launching a YouTube series focused on Malaysian and globally-inspired recipes with a personal touch. The goal is to inspire viewers to cook with high-quality, tried-and-tested, yet entertaining recipes from my home kitchen.
Ideal Candidate
You know that a cooking video is not just a recipe, but a human story. You are detail-oriented, a good communicator and understand the sensory and aesthetic elements required to make food content pop. You understand YouTube retention and how to hook audiences.
You will be provided a Visual Style Guide with reference links, and a recipe script with clear instructions for each project. You will be responsible for:
• Multi-Cam + A/B Roll Assembly: Seamlessly weave separate A-roll (instructional/talking head) and B-roll (food closeups) to create the illusion of a single, real-time cooking flow. Proficiency in multi-cam syncing (4K footage from Sony + two iPhones).
• Dynamic Motion in Post: Skills in adding digital zooms and pans to static shots to create movement and emphasis.
• Sound Design: Experience layering crisp ASMR (sizzling, pounding, bubbling) with ambient room noise and clean voiceovers to create an "intimate and sensory" soundscape.
• Visual Appeal: Color grading to make food closeups look vibrant and appetizing. Proficiency in matching the "modern organic" earthy palette provided in the Style Guide.
• Minimalist Graphics: Clean implementation of pop-up text and simple graphics using modern fonts.
• Vertical Repurposing: Ability to identify high-impact moments for 60-second vertical shorts/reels with captions. You will be provided voiceovers and instructions for shorts requiring custom-editing.
• Music Selection: Choosing non-distracting, copyright-free background tracks that support the “warm, approachable expertise” vibe.
Job Requirements
• Advanced 4K Workflow: must be comfortable downloading and managing 80-165GB of raw 4K footage (Sony + 2 iPhones) per project via Google Drive, with ability to generate your own proxies
• High-Speed Connectivity: Reliable internet for large file transfers a must
• Experience: Proven track record editing long-form cooking/lifestyle content (please provide portfolio)
• Software: Proficiency in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut. Please state which one you use. We will collaborate via Frame.io.
• Vibe: A passion for food or cooking! Bonus if you are familiar with Southeast Asian cuisine.
Workflow & Budget
• Frequency: 1 long-form video + 3-5 repurposed vertical shorts per week
• Budget: To start, $150-$200 per long-form recipe video and $15-$20 per vertical short. Additional simpler non-recipe videos (e.g. behind the scenes) to be negotiated. Rates may rise long-term as the channel grows.
• Trial: I will pay $40 for a trial edit of 90 seconds to see if our styles align.
