Position Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Backend Developer to join our engineering team. This role is designed for senior-level candidates with a proven track record of building and maintaining large-scale backend systems in production environments. You will have significant responsibility in backend architecture, performance optimization, and technical leadership.
This is a fully remote position based in the United States, offering competitive compensation aligned with experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain high-performance backend services
- Architect and scale APIs and microservices using Java and GraphQL
- Design and optimize DynamoDB schemas, queries, and indexing strategies
- Build and support event-driven and distributed system architectures
- Improve system reliability, observability, and fault tolerance
- Collaborate with frontend, DevOps, and product teams
- Lead code reviews and enforce backend engineering best practices
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance
- Ensure security, scalability, and performance across cloud-based systems
Required Qualifications
- 5 or more years of professional backend development experience
- Strong expertise in Java and Spring Boot
- Proven experience building and maintaining GraphQL APIs
- Deep hands-on experience with DynamoDB and NoSQL data modeling
- Experience designing high-throughput, scalable systems
- Strong knowledge of AWS services including Lambda, SQS, and API Gateway
- Experience with microservices, RESTful APIs, and event-driven architectures
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and DevOps practices
- Experience working in agile development environments
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar messaging systems
- Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code tools
- Experience with caching technologies such as Redis
- Understanding of domain-driven design and CQRS patterns
