JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Shopify developer to audit and optimise our existing Shopify website to improve speed, performance, and overall efficiency.

Over time, the site has accumulated unused Liquid code, JavaScript, CSS, apps, and legacy scripts that may be affecting load speed and Core Web Vitals. We are seeking someone who can carry out a careful, structured technical audit, followed by approved clean-up and optimisation work.

This role is project-based with potential for ongoing work if the collaboration is successful.

Project Structure
Phase 1: Technical audit and performance review (estimated 4–6 hours).
Phase 2: Code clean-up and optimisation work to be agreed only after review and approval of Phase 1 findings.

No clean-up work should begin until the audit has been reviewed and approved.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform a technical audit of the Shopify theme and app setup

- Identify unused or redundant Liquid templates, snippets, CSS, and JavaScript

- Audit installed and previously removed apps for leftover code

- Review third-party scripts and tracking tags impacting performance

- Analyse Shopify performance metrics (Core Web Vitals, load speed, TTFB)

- Work in a duplicate theme or staging environment

- Provide a clear written summary of findings and recommendations

Technical Requirements

- Strong experience with Shopify theme development

- Confident working with Liquid, JavaScript, CSS, and Shopify apps

- Proven experience removing legacy app code and reducing theme bloat

- Understanding of Shopify performance best practices

- Experience using tools such as PageSpeed Insights, Lighthouse, GTmetrix, or similar

- Careful and methodical approach to live e-commerce sites

- Ability to explain technical issues clearly in plain English

Additional Senior-Level Expectations

- This role is suitable for senior Shopify developers who:

- Are confident auditing large or long-running Shopify stores

- Have experience removing legacy app code without breaking functionality

- Can prioritise fixes based on performance impact and risk

- Work carefully using duplicate themes and controlled deployments

- Provide clear written recommendations, not just code changes

This role is not suitable for junior developers or general web developers without deep Shopify theme experience.

Required

- Experience with Shopify Online Store 2.0

- Experience optimising conversion-focused or high-traffic stores

- Familiarity with Meta, Google, and Klaviyo scripts and their performance impact

- Examples of measurable speed improvements on Shopify sites

Hourly Rate
PHP 700–850 per hour, depending on demonstrated Shopify performance optimisation experience.

A fixed scope or follow-on budget can be agreed after the audit.
