Overview
We are an established online education business running a custom web platform with a complex backend, including, subscriptions, and member dashboards.
We are looking for a senior technical lead who combines strong technical judgement with speed and
We have a large backlog of IT work and need someone who can move quickly, unblock progress, and drive execution, while still making sound technical decisions. This role exists specifically to reduce delays, prevent mistakes, and keep work moving forward.
This is not a slow or academic role, and not a junior or task-only developer position.
The primary responsibility is thinking, reviewing, guiding, and preventing problems, not just writing code.
What you will do
- Take technical responsibility for the existing web platform
- Rapidly review and understand an existing system built with Django, Go, and Node.js
- Identify bottlenecks, poor decisions, and unnecessary complexity early
- Make clear recommendations and move them into execution quickly
- Act as the technical bridge between the business and an external development team
- Review technical work and decisions made by other developers
- Keep delivery moving and prevent tasks from dragging on
- Help design and oversee:
-a new front-end rebuild
-payment processor integrations
-clean, well-defined API contracts between services
-backend cleanup and simplification
-improvements that materially enhance user experience
- Reduce back-and-forth, indecision, and stalled work
- Ensure the most important work ships first
Team & Communication Context
We currently work with an external development team based in India, including a project manager.
Due to time zone differences and team structure, communication and alignment can sometimes be inefficient.
A key part of this role is to improve clarity, reduce miscommunication, and maintain
You should be comfortable working across time zones and confident pushing for clarity and decisions when things slow down.
Pace & Expectations
- We move fast and expect visible progress every week
- You should be comfortable problem-solving and overcoming obstacles independently
- If something is blocked, you raise it early and propose a solution
- Long delays, vague updates, or endless refinement are not acceptable
What you will NOT be doing
- You will NOT over-engineer solutions
- You will NOT allow tasks to drag on without clear progress
- You will NOT wait weeks to make decisions that can be made in days
- You will NOT be micromanaged
This role requires ownership, decisiveness, and pace.
Required experience
- 8+ years professional web development experience
- Strong experience with backend systems and APIs
- Comfortable reviewing and understanding code written by others
- Experience working on existing systems you did not build
- Strong understanding of:
-system architecture
-data flow
-API design
-authentication and permissions
- Confident written and spoken English
Experience with Django, Node.js, or Go is highly preferred (not all required).

This role is about technical responsibility and decision-making, not legal or IP ownership.
All code, systems, and infrastructure remain the property of the company.
If you prefer slow planning cycles, open-ended timelines, or highly academic approaches, this role is not a good fit.
We are looking for someone who can think clearly and execute decisively.
Compensation
This role will start at approximately 20 hours per week.
Our budget is aligned with senior-level responsibility and impact.
