Job Description: Tax Preparer — U.S. Individual & Business Returns
Position Type: Full-Time, Seasonal (Mid-January - April 30, with potential for long-term opportunity)
Reports To: CEO

About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced U.S. Tax Preparer to support a high-volume tax season environment. This role requires strong technical tax knowledge, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to interpret financial data, transcripts, and prior-year filings to prepare accurate and compliant returns.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Individual Return Preparation (Form 1040 & Schedules)
Prepare and file Form 1040
Prepare and support associated schedules, including (as applicable):
Schedule A — Itemized Deductions
Schedule B — Interest & Dividends
Schedule C — Profit or Loss from Business
Schedule D — Capital Gains & Losses
Schedule E — Rental Real Estate, Partnerships, S-Corps
Correctly interpret and input source documents such as:
W-2s, 1099s, 1098s, K-1s, brokerage statements, bank statements
Review and interpret IRS transcripts to reconcile balances, filing history, or notices
Review prior-year tax returns and:
Enter prior-year data when required
Identify missing items or discrepancies based on prior-year filings
Assist with IRS and state payment plans / installment agreements
Conduct tax research and strategy review as needed to support filing positions

2. Business Return Preparation
Prepare and file:
Form 1065
Form 1120
Form 1120-S
Interpret and utilize:
Workpapers
Financial statements
QuickBooks or other accounting software records
Extract and validate financial data needed to support accurate tax return preparation

3. Multi-State & Software
Prepare U.S. returns for multiple states as needed
Experience with New York State returns preferred (not required)
Work in online tax software (OLT preferred, other professional tax software acceptable)

Qualifications:
PTIN preferred (not required; willingness to obtain if hired)
EA preferred (or actively pursuing Enrolled Agent status)
Minimum 3+ years of U.S. tax preparation experience across individual and business returns
Strong knowledge of IRS regulations and federal/state filing requirements
Experience interpreting:
Workpapers, financial reports, accounting records, and source documents
Familiarity with IRS transcripts, notices, and resolution processes
High accuracy, organization, and ability to work in a fast-paced seasonal environment

Preferred Skills:
Experience with OLT or other cloud-based tax software
Strong analytical, review, and tax research skills
Prior exposure to multi-state returns
Professional communication and teamwork skills

Schedule & Compensation:
Full-time seasonal role — Mid-January through April 30
Opportunity for extended or long-term engagement based on performance
Compensation commensurate with experience
