JOB OVERVIEW

Quantity Surveyor cum Estimator (Steel & Carpentry Works)

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Quantity Surveyor cum Estimator to join our team specializing in structural steel, metal works, and carpentry/joinery works. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, quantity take-offs, and managing cost control for steel fabrication, installation, and carpentry projects from tender stage through project completion.

Key Responsibilities
Quantity Surveying

Prepare detailed quantity take-offs and Bills of Quantities (BOQs) for steel, metal, and carpentry works

Monitor project costs, budgets, and cash flow

Prepare interim valuations, progress claims, and final accounts

Assess and evaluate variations, change orders, and claims

Coordinate with project managers, site teams, and subcontractors on cost-related matters

Measure and certify subcontractor works and payments

Estimation

Prepare accurate cost estimates for tenders involving structural steel, miscellaneous metal, and carpentry/joinery works

Analyze drawings, specifications, and scope documents

Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors

Prepare rate build-ups for materials, fabrication, labor, installation, finishing, and logistics

Identify cost risks and value engineering opportunities to improve competitiveness

Requirements

Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field

Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor and/or Estimator in steel fabrication and carpentry/joinery contracting

Strong understanding of steel structures, fabrication processes, carpentry works, and installation methods

Ability to read and interpret structural, architectural, and shop drawings

Proficiency in MS Excel and quantity surveying/estimation software

Good knowledge of contracts, variations, and cost control procedures

Preferred Skills & Experience

Experience with structural steel, staircases, handrails, balustrades, doors, cabinets, and custom carpentry works

Familiarity with local construction standards and pricing

Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills

Ability to handle multiple tenders and projects simultaneously

Good communication and coordination skills
