About the Project
We are building a HIPAA-compliant SaaS platform on Microsoft Azure for behavioral health providers. Core features include customizable therapy note templates (SOAP/BIRP), treatment plans, ICD-10 coding, secure billing support, voice-to-text transcription, and SMART on FHIR integration with major EHRs (athenahealth, AdvancedMD, Valant, Epic, etc.).
Additional requirements include Microsoft Teams integration for notifications and workflow actions, plus a built-in task tracking system for patient-related to-dos and treatment milestones.
Key Responsibilities
• Full-stack development of the core SaaS application (React/Next.js frontend + Node.js backend on Azure).
• Implement HIPAA-compliant architecture (encryption, audit logs, secure PHI handling).
• Build behavioral health features: customizable note templates, treatment plans with goals tracking, ICD-10 search/integration, secure voice recording + Azure Speech-to-Text transcription.
• Develop Microsoft Teams integration:
• Proactive notifications (e.g., new note ready, task overdue, treatment plan milestone) via incoming webhooks or Azure Logic Apps.
• Build a Teams bot (using Microsoft Bot Framework) for quick actions (e.g., create task, mark complete, view patient summary).
• Implement adaptive cards and message extensions where appropriate.
• Build internal task tracking system: create, assign, and track tasks tied to patients/notes/treatment plans; include due dates, reminders, status updates, priority, and dashboard views.
• Implement SMART on FHIR and HL7 interoperability for seamless EHR read/write sync.
• Register and test in EHR developer portals/marketplaces.
• Deploy and maintain on Azure (App Service, Static Web Apps, SQL Database, Cognitive Services).
• Collaborate daily via GitHub, Microsoft Teams (company workspace), and project management tools (e.g., Azure DevOps, Planner, or Trello).
Required Skills & Experience
• 5+ years full-stack development (React/Next.js, Node.js/Express/NestJS).
• Strong Azure cloud experience (App Service, Functions, SQL, Cognitive Services).
• Proven HIPAA compliance and healthcare application experience.
• Hands-on expertise with FHIR/SMART on FHIR and HL7 standards (must have built EHR integrations).
• Experience building Microsoft Teams apps/integrations (Bot Framework, adaptive cards, message extensions, webhooks).
• Experience developing task/project management features (e.g., Kanban-style boards, reminders, assignments).
• Solid understanding of OAuth2, REST APIs, webhooks, and secure authentication (including Microsoft Graph/Entra ID).
• Excellent written and spoken English; independent, proactive, and reliable daily communication via Teams.
Bonus Skills
• Previous behavioral health EHR integrations or marketplace listings.
• Experience with Microsoft Graph API or Azure Logic Apps for workflows.
Confidentiality & Security Requirements
This project involves sensitive Protected Health Information (PHI) under HIPAA regulations. The selected candidate will be required to:
• Sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) and Business Associate Agreement (BAA) before accessing any code or data.
• Work on a secure, dedicated device with up-to-date antivirus, firewall, and full-disk encryption.
• Use only company-approved tools (private GitHub repo, Microsoft Teams workspace, password manager).
• Never store PHI locally or share project details externally.
• Agree to regular security training and compliance checks.
• Undergo a basic background check (if mutually agreed).
Violations of confidentiality will result in immediate termination and potential legal action.
