JOB OVERVIEW

YOUTUBE VIDEO EDITOR — MYSTERY/DOCUMENTARY CHANNEL

What They Buried - Long-Term Position

ABOUT THE CHANNEL

We're launching a documentary-style YouTube channel focused on real unexplained mysteries: missing persons cases, strange disappearances, and events that don't add up. Think Fascinating Horror meets Missing 411 — serious investigation, dark storytelling, no paranormal entertainment.

We're looking for one experienced editor to grow with us long-term as we build to monetization and beyond.

WHAT YOU'LL RECEIVE FROM US

Each week you'll get:

Full script (completely written)
Professional AI voiceover (already recorded)
Creative direction (visual themes, key ---------- nts, reference videos)
Clear expectations and feedback

WHAT YOU'LL DELIVER

For each 8-12 minute video:

Source all B-roll footage (royalty-free/licensed)
Full video edit with pacing and atmosphere
Sound design (music, SFX, ambience)
Color grading (dark realism tone)
Text overlays (dates, locations, key facts)
Thumbnail options (2-3 variations)
Export in 1080p, upload-ready format
Turnaround: 5-7 days per video

PAY & SCHEDULE

$ ---------- per video (based on experience level)
4 videos per month = $ ---------- /month
Weekly workflow, paid per completed video.
Long-term position with growth potential as channel scales.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

You must have:

Previous experience editing mystery, true crime, or documentary content
Portfolio showing 8+ minute videos (not just short clips)
Strong understanding of pacing and tension building
Professional sound design skills
Ability to create atmosphere without jump scares
Excellent English comprehension

Tools: Any professional editing software (Premiere, DaVinci, CapCut Pro, etc.)

CRITICAL REQUIREMENT: COPYRIGHT SAFETY

You must:

Only use properly licensed footage (royalty-free or purchased)
Document sources for every asset used
Understand YouTube copyright guidelines
Be able to explain your sourcing process

One copyright strike could destroy the channel. We take this seriously.

TO APPLY, YOU MUST INCLUDE:

PORTFOLIO (Required)

Link to 2-3 videos you've edited that show:

Mystery, true crime, or documentary style
8+ minutes in length
Professional pacing and sound design

If you don't have relevant portfolio work, please don't apply.

ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS:

a) Describe your process for sourcing B-roll footage:

Where do you find footage?
How do you ensure it's safe to use?
What's your backup plan if specific footage isn't available?

b) Find and watch any video from the YouTube channel "Fascinating Horror" published in the last year.

What makes the pacing effective?
What would you do differently?
What tools/techniques create the atmosphere?

c) Availability:

Can you commit to 4 videos per month consistently?
Typical turnaround time?
Time zone? (for communication)

THREE REFERENCES

Names and contact info for past clients (preferably YouTube creators you've worked with).

PAID TEST ASSIGNMENT

Shortlisted candidates will complete a paid test video ($75-100):

We provide: script, voiceover, creative direction
You deliver: 3-4 minute edited segment
Deadline: 48-72 hours
One revision round

This helps us see if we're a good fit before committing long-term.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

The right person:

Understands that silence can be more powerful than sound
Knows how to build dread without being over-the-top
Makes smart creative choices without constant hand-holding
Communicates clearly and meets deadlines
Takes pride in their work and wants to grow with a channel

This isn't right for you if:

You're just starting out (we need proven experience)
You want creative freedom to "do your own thing" (we have a specific vision)
You can't commit to weekly deadlines
You're looking for a quick side gig (we want long-term partnership)

WHY THIS IS A GOOD OPPORTUNITY

Consistent work: Weekly videos, predictable income
Clear direction: You won't waste time guessing what we want
Room to grow: As the channel monetizes, so does your rate
Build your portfolio: Quality content in a growing niche
Long-term: We're building this for years, not months

HOW TO STAND OUT

Good applications include:

Portfolio that shows you already understand this style
Thoughtful answers to our questions (not copy-paste)
Examples of how you've solved creative challenges
References we can actually contact

Generic "I'm very skilled editor" messages will be ignored.

NEXT STEPS

Submit application with portfolio + answers
We'll review within 3-5 days
Top 2-3 candidates get paid test assignment
Best fit starts immediately on first real video
Monthly contract begins after successful first video

APPLICATION CHECKLIST
Before applying, make sure you have:

Portfolio with 2-3 relevant videos (8+ minutes)
Answered all three questions thoroughly
Three references with contact info
Confirmed you can do 4 videos/month consistently
Explained your B-roll sourcing process

ABOUT US

We're a small team building a channel from scratch. We value quality over speed, consistency over perfection, and partnership over transactions. If you're looking to help build something real, we'd love to work with you.

ONE FINAL NOTE

We're not looking for the cheapest editor or the fastest editor.
We're looking for the right editor — someone who gets the vision, delivers quality work, and wants to be part of something long-term.

If that's you, we'd love to see your application.
