Based in Canada, we are looking for a journalist who can rewrite press releases and government documents into professional news stories. You will transform press releases and government documents into clear, engaging news stories that serve local communities. This role is ideal for someone who can write quickly, accurately, and consistently while working independently.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Rewrite press releases into compelling news stories for local audiences
Transform government documents (council agendas, staff reports, policy updates) into accessible news content
Identify newsworthy angles in official documents and announcements
Write 4-5 news stories per day across all three publications
Meet daily deadlines and maintain consistent content flow
Follow editorial guidelines and style standards
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Excellent English writing skills
Journalism degree or equivalent training preferred
Experience writing news stories from press releases or official documents
Ability to write clear, concise stories
Strong research and fact-checking skills
Familiarity with AP style or similar journalistic writing standards
Comfortable working with Canadian/North American government structures
Self-directed and able to work independently with minimal supervision
Reliable internet connection and home office setup
WORKING HOURS
Monday to Friday, 4-5 hours per day
Must be available Vancouver, BC, Canada time from 8 am.
Flexibility for occasional breaking news outside regular hours
