We are seeking a proactive, highly detailed Finance Manager who will not only ensure the integrity of our core financials using Xero but will also establish and enforce the FinOps (Financial Operations) discipline across our new cloud infrastructure. You will be the crucial link between our Finance and Engineering teams, turning cost data into strategic decisions and ensuring our AI platform is both powerful and profitable.
Key Responsibilities & Deliverables
I. Core Financial Management (Xero & Compliance)
- Manage all core accounting functions, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, payroll, and GL reconciliation, using the Xero Accounting System as the primary tool.
- Proactively communicate with customers and suppliers—via impeccably written and spoken English—to answer questions, gather necessary information, and ensure the smooth flow of payments (AP/AR).
- Prepare and analyze internal financial reports, ensuring compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee the management of client billing and expenses, ensuring accurate allocation of costs.
II. Strategic FinOps and Cloud Cost Control
- Cost Visibility & Allocation: Mandate and audit the use of standardized labels (e.g., client_id, environment) across all deployed resources (BigQuery, Vertex AI Endpoints) to ensure $100\%$ accurate cost allocation back to the client.
- Cost Optimisation Enforcement: Work directly with the Data Engineer to monitor and enforce the use of Materialized Views (MVs) for all high-volume BigQuery queries (from reporting and NL2SQL) to minimize data scanned and directly lower query costs.
- Budget Governance: Monitor and manage Google Cloud Budget Alerts to prevent overspend, especially for high-cost services like Vertex AI Custom Training.
- Strategic Cost Reduction: Identify, manage, and track the utilization of Committed Use Discounts (CUDs) for predictable resource usage (e.g., BigQuery slots, Vertex AI compute).
- Decommissioning Oversight: Confirm that Model Decommissioning procedures (traffic drain, endpoint deletion) are followed immediately upon model retirement to stop recurring compute billing, a critical FinOps objective.
Required Skills and Experience
* Financial/Accounting - Proven expertise in full-cycle accounting and managing day-to-day financials within the Xero * Accounting System.
Communication - Impeccable written and spoken English; confidence and a proactive approach to communicating with customers and suppliers.
* FinOps/Technical - Proven experience in Cloud Financial Management (FinOps), specifically managing cost, governance, and reporting for cloud infrastructure (GCP, AWS, or Azure).
* Data Literacy - Strong data literacy and the ability to understand how data is structured in a data warehouse (e.g., BigQuery). Familiarity with basic SQL querying or data visualization tools is a significant plus.
