Compare actual results against budget/forecast, providing commentary and analysis of key variances.
Maintain and present a clear financial dashboard highlighting key metrics—e.g., revenue, gross margin, operating expenses, cash position.
Attend monthly virtual review sessions with the business owner to discuss financial performance and identify opportunities for improvement.

Strategic Financial Advisory:
Provide high-level financial insight and recommendations to support decision-making.
Conduct scenario modelling and cash flow forecasting for strategic planning.
Recommend cost control strategies and monitor margin performance.
Contribute to improving financial systems, controls and reporting processes appropriate to a growing SME.
Compliance & Reporting (BAS/Tax Documentation)
Support the preparation of documentation required for company tax return lodgements.
Ensure all month-end reconciliations and reviews are completed to support tax accuracy and audit readiness.
Flag any tax or regulatory compliance issues proactively with the business owner.

Collaboration & Communication:
Liaise with external bookkeepers and accountants to ensure accurate and timely data.
Communicate financial results and analysis in clear, accessible terms for non-financial stakeholders.
Interface with external tax and financial advisors as required.

Candidate Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or similar; CPA/CA/ACCA qualification preferred.
7+ years’ experience in accounting/finance roles, including management reporting and compliance.
Demonstrated experience supporting Australian SMEs, particularly in BAS and tax preparation.
Strong proficiency with cloud-based accounting systems (e.g., Xero or QuickBooks Online).
High analytical capability and proven ability to translate financial data into business insights.
Excellent communication skills; able to work autonomously and manage deadlines independently.

Highly Regarded:
Experience working with Australian founders or startups.
Familiarity with dashboard tools (e.g., Power BI, Google Data Studio, Excel-based dashboards).
Prior experience in a remote or cross-border working environment.
