We are a Canadian accounting firm seeking a highly experienced Senior Bookkeeper based in the Philippines to support and oversee bookkeeping work for a portfolio of Canadian small-business clients. This role requires a deep understanding of Canadian bookkeeping standards, strong analytical skills, and the ability to produce client-ready work with minimal supervision. Part-time and full-time applicants will be considered.
About the Role
As a Senior Bookkeeper, you will take ownership of complete bookkeeping cycles, perform complex reconciliations, clean up historical issues, and ensure accurate financial reporting. You must be exceptionally detail-oriented and able to work independently while maintaining high professional standards. You will serve as a key support to the accounting team and help maintain consistency and quality across client files.
Key Responsibilities
Lead full-cycle bookkeeping for multiple Canadian corporations
Perform advanced bank, credit card, loan, and intercompany reconciliations
Month-end and year-end close procedures, including adjusting entries
Prepare and review draft financial statements (Balance Sheet, P&L)
Clean up and standardize books for new onboarding clients
Manage AR/AP cycles, including aging analysis
Prepare and file GST/HST and QST returns (mandatory)
Identify errors, incorrect postings, and root causes; propose corrective actions
Support compilation (NTR) and tax prep workflows by providing year-end schedules
Collaborate with accountants to finalize month-end and year-end work
Ensure documentation and workpapers meet firm standards
Communicate effectively with the accounting team and escalate issues proactively
Required Skills & Experience
Mandatory: Minimum 4–5+ years of Canadian bookkeeping experience
Mandatory: Strong working knowledge of GST/HST and QST
Proven experience handling bookkeeping for Canadian small businesses
Advanced QuickBooks Online skills (bank rules, cleanup, custom reports, etc.)
Strong understanding of ASPE basics as related to bookkeeping
Ability to work independently and produce clean, accurate work
Experience performing cleanup of messy or incomplete books
Strong English communication skills (written and verbal)
High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism
Exceptional attention to detail—errors or sloppy work are not tolerated in this role
Nice-to-Have
Prior work in a Canadian accounting firm
Experience preparing year-end schedules for accountants
Knowledge of Canadian payroll posting and reconciliation
Familiarity with tools such as Dext, Hubdoc, Financial Cents, Harvest, or similar

Applicants who cannot demonstrate strong, hands-on bookkeeping experience with Canadian clients will not be considered.

Work Arrangement
