About the Role
We are a California-based labor and employment law firm dedicated to protecting employee rights and promoting workplace justice. As our firm grows, we are seeking a dedicated, proactive, and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Finance Operations Specialist. This is a full-time position with long-term potential for growth. The ideal candidate must have experience working remotely and be able to align with California time zone hours.

Position Summary
The accountant/bookkeeper will manage the day-to-day financial operations of a California labor law plaintiff’s practice, with a focus on accuracy, compliance, and timely reporting. This role is responsible for tracking and reconciling case-related costs, managing firm expenses, processing payroll, and preparing detailed settlement accountings for clients. The position requires a high level of attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work with sensitive financial data in a confidential manner.

Key Responsibilities
1. Accounting & Bookkeeping
Manage bi-weekly payroll processing for employees via Gusto.
Reconcile bank accounts and expense accounts monthly.
Oversee and track accounts payable (software subscriptions, court costs, etc.) and accounts receivable (settlement receipts).
Maintain and optimize the firm’s financial accounts, aligning it with legal practice structure and case-level tracking.

2. Case Settlement Distribution
Manage the disbursement of settlements, including attorney fees, client payouts, and third-party lien holders.
Work with paralegals and attorneys to manage and execute settlement disbursement.

3. Case Cost and Reimbursement Tracking
Implement and manage case-level cost tracking systems.
Work with paralegals and attorneys to log, categorize, and verify expenses.
Prepare final case-level accounting for settlement allocation, including cost reimbursements to the firm.
Audit case records to ensure costs are tagged, recorded, and aligned.

Required Qualifications
5+ years of experience as an account/bookkeeper/controller (law firm experience highly preferred)
Experience in financial statement analysis
Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational and reconciliation skills
Strong communication skills
Self-starter with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with CRM-to-accounting integrations (Airtable, etc.)
Certified Public Accountant
QuickBooks Online
