JOB OVERVIEW

Schedule: ~10 hours/week to start
Start Date: ASAP

About the Role

We’re looking for a talented and dependable creative writer to join a writing team for an exciting new Gothic Regency Romance series. Think Jane Austen meets Mary Shelley — emotionally rich love stories with a subtle, elegant horror twist.

You’ll work under the guidance of a published romance author and collaborate on story outlines, write emotionally resonant scenes, and eventually grow into a co-writing role (with credit). A love for historical fiction and a flair for moody, character-driven storytelling are a must.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Read and match the author’s voice and tone (you’ll get a sample novel to study)
Expand brief plot outlines into structured story outlines
Write emotional, character-driven romantic scenes with classic horror elements
Collaborate and communicate regularly with the team
Write in Scrivener (license provided if needed)
Handle feedback and revisions professionally
Maintain historical accuracy in a natural and subtle way

Ideal Background:

Strong command of written English
Experience or interest in writing romance, historical fiction, or gothic themes
Comfortable working from story briefs but can add your own creative touches
Familiarity with the Regency era (or willingness to research)
Able to manage time independently and meet weekly writing goals
Open to constructive feedback and collaboration
Bonus if you've written slow-burn or redemption arc stories

Audition Process (Paid):
Shortlisted candidates will receive a paid audition that includes:

1. A plot brief + author voice guide
2. Task: Write an outline and a 750–1,200-word prologue
If your tone and style are a match, you'll move into weekly project work (with hourly pay + completion bonuses).

A writing sample (preferably romantic, emotional, or historical)
Your expected hourly rate and availability
Whether you’ve used Scrivener before (or if you’ll need a license)
Any relevant past writing experience or published work (if applicable)

A Rare Opportunity:
This isn’t just a ghostwriting gig. You’ll receive co-writing credit and portfolio rights once the book is published (NDA required for project confidentiality). If you're passionate about romance, period fiction, and bringing beautifully strange stories to life — we’d love to hear from you!
