JOB OVERVIEW

We're seeking a versatile UX/UI designer to join our fast-paced product development team at BestSelf Co. This is a unique opportunity for someone who thrives on variety, rapid iteration, and practical design solutions. You'll work across multiple digital products simultaneously, focusing on functional, good-enough designs that ship quickly rather than pixel-perfect mockups that take forever.

What Makes This Role Different

• Speed over perfection: We value designs that work and look decent over elaborate, time-consuming perfection
• Variety is the norm: You'll jump between 4+ different products (mobile apps, desktop apps, web platforms)
• Direct to code: Your Figma designs will be directly translated to code using AI tools (Figma MCP + Claude)
• Dual purpose: Split time between product UI and marketing materials
• Experimental mindset: Perfect for someone who wants to try different approaches and learn what works

Current Projects You'll Design For

• Mobile Apps: Goal-tracking companion app, couples relationship app, voice reflection app
• Desktop Software: Focus/productivity blocker for Mac/Windows/Linux
• Web Platforms: Dashboard interfaces and landing pages
• Marketing Materials: App store screenshots, feature graphics, social media assets, email templates

Key Responsibilities

Product Design (70%)
• Create quick, functional UI designs in Figma that are "good enough to ship"
• Design user flows and wireframes that prioritize usability over aesthetics
• Build component libraries that can be reused across projects
• Ensure designs are structured for easy AI code generation (clean layers, consistent naming)
• Iterate rapidly based on user feedback and technical constraints

Marketing Design (30%)
• Design app store assets (screenshots, feature graphics, icons)
• Create social media templates and graphics
• Design email templates and landing page mockups
• Produce quick marketing materials for product launches

What We're Looking For

Must-Haves:
• Proficiency in Figma (including auto-layout, components, and design systems)
• Portfolio showing range (not just polish) - we want to see variety and adaptability
• Comfort with "shipped is better than perfect" mentality
• Basic understanding of development constraints (what's easy vs hard to build)
• Self-directed work style with good communication skills

Major Bonus Points:
• Tailwind CSS knowledge - Our entire stack uses Tailwind/NativeWind
• Front-end development skills - HTML/CSS/React basics to understand implementation
• Experience with our tech stack:
? React Native/Expo for mobile apps
? Next.js for web applications
? Electron for desktop apps
? Supabase for backend services
• Design systems experience with:
? shadcn/ui components
? Radix UI primitives
? React Native Paper (Material Design)
• Understanding of utility-first CSS and component composition

Nice-to-Haves:
• Experience with AI tools for design or development
• Background in startups or agencies where speed matters
• Interest in productivity tools, self-improvement, or relationship products
• Familiarity with Turborepo/monorepo structures

Ideal Candidate Profile

You're the perfect fit if you:
• Can translate Tailwind utility classes into Figma styles
• Understand how shadcn/ui components work and can design within those constraints
• Know the difference between what's easy vs hard in React Native
• Can create designs that map directly to component props and variants
• Have actually shipped products (not just made mockups)

What We Offer

• Remote work with flexible hours
• Opportunity to see your designs come to life quickly (days, not months)
• Exposure to cutting-edge AI-assisted development workflows
• Variety of projects to build diverse portfolio
• Direct impact on products used by thousands of customers
• Competitive hourly/project rate based on experience

Work Style & Expectations

• Pace: Expect to deliver initial designs within 1-2 days, not weeks
• Iterations: 2-3 quick rounds max, then we ship
• Communication: Async-first via Slack/Loom, occasional video calls
• Tools: Figma (required), bonus points for Framer, Principle, or similar
• Availability: 15-30 hours/week, project-based with potential for ongoing work

How to Apply

Send us:
1. Portfolio link - Show us range and speed, not just your prettiest work
2. Your fastest turnaround - Tell us about a project you designed quickly that still worked well
3. Rate expectations - Hourly or project-based pricing
4. Availability - When you can start and hours per week

Stand out by including:
• Examples of Figma designs that use Tailwind-style spacing/sizing scales
• Designs you've created that were successfully implemented by developers
• A quick review of one of our current projects with 2-3 design improvement suggestions
• Any code you've written (even if it's just HTML/CSS)
• Examples of component libraries you've built that mirror popular UI kits

Application Challenge (Optional but Recommended)

Pick ONE of our current projects and submit:
1. A 30-minute redesign of a single screen/component using Tailwind-friendly spacing
2. A brief note on what shadcn/ui or NativeWind components you'd use to build it
3. Your thoughts on how to make it "good enough" rather than perfect

Who Shouldn't Apply

• Perfectionists who need every pixel aligned
• Designers who require extensive research phases before starting
• Those uncomfortable with ambiguity and changing requirements
• Anyone who sees "good enough" as an insult rather than a strategy
• Designers who've never looked at their designs implemented in code

Tech Context: We use React Native + Expo for mobile, Next.js for web, Electron for desktop, all with Tailwind/NativeWind styling, Supabase backend, and TypeScript throughout.

To Apply: Email [your email] with subject line "Fast Designer - [Your Name]"

Note: This role is perfect for a designer who's curious about development, a developer who wants to do more design, or a hybrid designer-developer who values shipping over perfection.
