Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Video Editor to craft high-impact trailers, short-form videos, and long-form content for our journalistic platforms. The ideal candidate is a creative storyteller with advanced technical skills, capable of transforming raw footage into powerful narratives that expose injustices, highlight facts, and engage audiences. This role involves collaborating with journalists, producers, and researchers to produce videos that not only inform but also inspire action. This is a remote-friendly position with flexible hours, reporting to the Content Director.
Key Responsibilities
- Edit shorts with strong hooks and strong, engaging visuals
- Edit and produce cinematic trailers for investigative reports, documentaries, and breaking stories, ensuring they capture viewer attention within the first few seconds.
- Create impactful videos across formats, including social media clips, YouTube features, and broadcast segments, focusing on pacing, tension-building, and emotional resonance to amplify journalistic messages.
- Collaborate with reporters and fact-checkers to integrate raw footage, interviews, B-roll, graphics, and audio elements into cohesive, truth-driven narratives.
- Enhance videos with advanced effects, color grading, sound design, and motion graphics to maximize viewer engagement and emphasize key revelations.
- Optimize content for various platforms (e.g., X, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram) while maintaining journalistic integrity and ethical standards.
- Review and iterate on edits based on feedback, ensuring accuracy, bias-free presentation, and compliance with media ethics guidelines.
- Stay updated on emerging video trends, tools, and techniques to innovate in truth-exposing content creation.
- Mentor junior editors and contribute to team workflows for efficient production under tight deadlines.
Required Qualifications
- At least 5+ years of professional video editing experience, with a portfolio demonstrating advanced work in trailers, promotional videos, or documentary-style content.
- Proven track record in journalistic or non-fiction video production, ideally involving investigative or truth-exposing themes.
- Expertise in Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, DaVinci Resolve, or similar advanced editing software.
- Strong understanding of storytelling principles, including narrative arc, visual pacing, and audience psychology to create "impactful" content that drives shares and discussions.
- Familiarity with ethical editing practices in journalism, such as avoiding sensationalism while highlighting facts.
- Excellent attention to detail, time management skills, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Knowledge of audio mixing, voiceover integration, and subtitle creation for multilingual audiences.
- Passion for investigative journalism, with examples of past work exposing social issues, corruption, or environmental concerns.
- Proficiency in handling sensitive content, including redacting identities and ensuring source protection.
